The Giorgio Cini Foundation is a non-profit cultural institution based in Venice, Italy. It was constituted by Vittorio Cini, in memory of his son Giorgio, with the aim of restoring the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore (devastated after 100 years of military occupation) and of creating an international cultural centre that would re-integrate the Island into the life of Venice.

OK it's modern art but this is so bad and it's a bit of a walk from the church to get there and when you do you just can't believe that that is all there is to see. If you have a particular interest in the artist then it may be worth it

And you can! Apparently, all you have to do is register with the foundation/library, and you will have access to a world class institute for the study of Art History. The gigantic complex is built in the renovated Benedictine Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore. The cost of the Sat. or Sun. tour, available in English or Italian, is well worth... More

The Fondazione has been responsible for restoring the monastery and church of San Giorgio and now serves as a global center for culture scholars. There are numerous things to see and do on the island. First, there is the campanile of the church, which offers superb views over the city and lagoon. The church itself is often used to display... take ferry line # 2 from San Zaccaria and sail to San Giorgio for a visit to Fondazione Cini based in San Giorgio monastery, it really worthy. Few people, very quiet and above all a great and interesting peace of history and architecture with its stunning cloisters and library and it's crazy labirinth, that you can only see from the... This is a review of an extra-ordinary experience to visit the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the Island of St. Giorgio Maggiore in Venice through November, 2014. While La Galleria Palazzo Cini in Venice proper is not to be missed, for the 60th anniversary of the Foundation, guided tours of the Fondation on the island are possible. These are open to... More

If you go up in the bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore you will see cloisters and labyrinth from above. To see them from ground level you must take the Fondazione Chini's guided tour of the two cloisters, one by Palladio and the other by Longhena. The tour also included Longhena's monumental staircase and the libraries, but you cannot walk... More

If you have a day pass for the Vaporetti do get away from the crowds and take a short stop at S. Giorgio Maggiore across from St Marks Square. Take the lift up the tower of the church for a fantastic 360 degree view of Venice. There isn't much else at this vaporetti stop other than a nice small marina... More

Wonderful shell sculptures outside and a truely awesome Mark Quinn exhibition inside. I was so glad we saw this. "Breath" outside really challenged the venitians we spoke to. These sculptures reveal true human beauty.

If you want to see the inside of a Benedictine monastery this is an ideal opportunity. We joined a couple of other people for a guided tour which talks about the construction and expansion of the monastery. You get to hear about everything that the buildings have been through, but you also get to see some fantastic restoration and some... More
