Very reasonably priced admission for a tour that you take with an audio guide (like a cell phone). This is truly a lovely theatre ad we did not realise that the chandeliers came from my home city, Liverpool. The lunch facilities are similarly reasonably priced. Even if you are not an opera lover, which we are, this is a great... More

We had made a reservation from home to visit and see Lucia di Lammermoor on 26/4-2017, the theatre is old but restored in 2004 to the original scene. We sat at first row overlooking the orchestra and the scene, our first opera outside Copenhagen, but extraordinary awesome, the set-up and the singing was out of this world.

A picture of grandeur...opulent Opera House in 1792. Gilded interior and majestic lighting and sound make it perfect for show acoustics. Demure exterior on a small inlet, not as grand or expensive as Milano's La Scala. Nice bookstore inside entry door.

Set on a small square not far from the Campo San Angelo, the modest facade of La Fenice, built in 1792, does not suggest the grandeur within. Just inside the entry portico is a bookstore (in American concert halls this institution is typically called the gift shop) and desk where you can purchase tickets--if seats are available. This is one... More

wandered in expecting to admire beautiful rooms and decorations only to find a rehearsal underway for Lucia di Lammermuir. stayed and watched for quite a while and enjoyed every minute. worth popping in especially if they are rehearsing and on the evidence an evening at the theatre would be fabulous.

We attending a classical concert to watch a trio of musicians. It was amazing. We took our 4 teenagers and our 6 year old. It was an amazing experience, with attentive staff in a historic setting. A must visit when in Venice.

We went here for a mini moon treat and went to see Carmen. Having never been to opera were unsure what to expect but we were mesmerised by the orchestra conductor and the stage. The theatre itself was like an extra prop to the show the grandeur and gold design was beautiful. The clock in the ceiling was amazing

Amazing place rather than spend €25 each for a tour I spent £40 on a concert to get a better feel for the place it was a shame they didn't have an opera that night but I'm glad I went just to say I've been there

It's a must-see in Venice! 10 euro audio guide included! We had to wait 15 minutes for the audio guide because they were all used.

We went to see a performance of Carmen by Georges Bizet for our friends anniversary last month. This has to be one of the finest and most breathtakingly beautiful theatres it has been my privilege and pleasure to visit. The performance and the orchestra were fabulous and the acoustics were excellent. We were lucky enough to get tickets for the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
