What a grand time! A perfect day spent with Enrica Rocca ~ We began our morning visiting the fish Market and choosing our various seafood to prepare. We then visited the produce market choosing our vegetables and herbs with which to prepare our feast. After completing our shopping we stopped by a typical bar for Venetian Cicheti (a slice of... Where to start? If you love food, good quality products and enjoy speaking with a passionate and extremely knowledgeable person, please make sure you book a cooking class with Enrica. This will be the highlight of your Venice trip, I promise. I visited Enrica with friends. Some of my friends enjoy cooking less but even they loved it! Going to... More

Enrica Rocca took us around Venice to show local way to pick, shop, prep, cook, and eat the Venetian way. Riato market, albeit decreasing and shifting to souvenir shops, offered fresh and finest local ingredients. She showed how to look for the right ingredients and where to shop. We were fortunate to find some fresh baby octopuses which often get... More

I booked this expensive cooking class as a gift for my daughter and I a month before. About 3 weeks before the date of the class I even had an email conversation with Enrica about the day we should do the class, it was all confirmed. And then she just didn't show up, she failed to arrive, and left us... More

Dear Emma (Catherine), I would have never refunded you the class without giving you an explanation...That would have been very rude and unacceptable! I sent you a message the minute I looked at my phone and realised you booking had vanished from my Google Calendar and I had left you waiting for me in Rialto. I never give classes on... More

My wife and I had a wonderful experience with Enrica during our cooking class in early November. We met near the foot of the Rialto bridge and then shopped for fresh ingredients at the fish market and local vegetable seller. We then enjoyed some wine and appetizers at a nearby bar before taking a water taxi to her home in... More

Enrica Rocca and her daughter/assistant Charlotte are the kind of people I would want to spend time with in Venice, even if I didn't take her all-day cooking class. But I did, and had the time of my life. Enrica introduced us to the fish and vegetable markets, envisioned how to make all the ingredients work, got us chopping and... More

I HIGHLY recommend Enrica Rocca...my husband surprised me with a trip to Venice and Enrica's cooking class was one of the things he planned. She was amazing! Very personable, knows a lot about cooking authentic Italian food. She goes shopping at the Farmers Market/Fish Market the day of your class so everything is fresh and the flavors are incredible. She... More

To say I lack ability in the kitchen would be a disservices to horrible cooks everywhere. I signed up only as an experience to be shared at arm's length with my wife; however, Enrica was so engaging and understanding that I actually had a hand in preparing three of the first five dishes prepared. Even though the first course was... More

The one day cooking course was a Christmas present from my wife and what a fantastic Christmas present. The day started off with the market and buying the food that was to be cooked, being informed what to look for and how to buy the best produce was incredibly interesting although a lot to take in. Once the cooking started... More

My partner and I and another couple that we were traveling with splurged on the wine pairing class this September with Enrica and couldn't have been happier. When we arrived at her house, we were greeted with wonderful bruschetta and aperitifs, then jumped into preparing several courses with her instruction. The sommelier discussed what to look for when pairing wines... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
