We were out exploring from our AirBnB and found these guys. Fun. Since we have the AirBnB we can dive deeper into the culture and lifestyles here. The Grocery stores are not easy to find. Just Google COOP and then map them out with directions and its easy. No big flashing signs!

To be quite honest we were lost when we stumbled on the Campo Santa Margherita. What an amazing place hidden from the hussell and bussell of Venice. More locals than tourists. We took advantage of a quite lunch there.

Busy square with many small pubs, osterias, etc. Full of life of all ages but definitely where young folk of Venice go to meet. Great for people watching while sitting in sun, enjoying some prosecco.

We had booked an AirBnB where we could cook food instead of going out every night. We ran across this on the way to the market which is only a block away. We were able to buy some fresh vegetables & eggs at cheap prices, there is a fairly good selection of fresh produce.

This is a beautiful small town square with a lot of little restaurants and bars which can get rather lively at night. The good part is that there seems to be far more locals than tourists, which isn't that easy to find in Venice :).

Great location for lunch or dinner. Several cafes and restaurants to chose from plus a site for concerts in one of the corners. It is perfect to be away from the most touristic areas and enjoy a nice Italian meal. All the restaurants in the area are good and very friendly.

great place to visit, lots going on, not as busy as St Marks and also not so expensive. Have a drink and watch the world go by.

Campo Margherita is one of the nicest in Venice with benches on which to rest on the way back from San Lucia.

Here is the night life, the square is close the universities, lots of bistros and restaurants. The Basilica Maria del Carmini and the Scoula Grande del Carmini are in one corner. The Scuola (a fraternity or guild hall) presents concerts, in a old venetian concert hall, very nice. We had drinks in the Bar Al Fontego, in the other corner... More

A wonderful and spacious Venetian square with an eclectic mix of bars and restaurants. This is a place that is particularly good to visit in the evening; simply sit and people watch whilst enjoying a spritz. It's seemingly a square that attracts a lot of locals, so if you are seeking a more authentic side of Venice this is a... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
