The Gesuati or the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario is an imposing church facing the Giudecca Canal. The facade is currently going under restoration. There are many great works of art here including a ceiling painted by Tiepolo and a Tintoretto Crucifixion. The Gesuati is one of about 20 churches that can be visited by purchasing the Chorus Pass.... More

We took many pictures of the outside of this church. It was just after a rain and there was still a bit of morning mist in the air. The stone glistened and seemed to bring out even more beauty in the facade. We did not get to go inside, but the outside is worth a visit in itself.

This church is just one of many simply beautiful houses of god that you can see in Venice. Each one is different but everyone is truly stunning. This church is very big but has a lovely warm feeling to it & the monks didn't mind having their photo taken either. You cannot get tired of the church's in Venice as... More

While strolling up the Zattere, we came across this church (which was closed). We got chatting to an English couple who advised us to wait until it opened. The façade is quite beautiful and the interior contains many works of art. Worth a visit, if in that area.

For 3E entry fee, common for most churches in Venice, I saw Tiepolo's ceiling paintings and an altarpiece painting, Tintoretto's "Crucifixion", and several statues by Morlaiter, the foremost sculptor of his time. Tiepolo's 3 ceiling frescoes were exquisite. There was 1 large central painting with 2 smaller ones. Each portrayed St. Dominic as the church belonged to the Dominicans. The... More

We passed this church many times traveling up and down the canal. We came off the vaporetto at a stop directly in front of the church by happenstance and were so happy to be able to see the inside. Pretty statues.

This lovely little church is part of the 'Chorus' group (you can buy a pass to see all of them (16) for a very reasonable price). This church was very quiet & peaceful - such a lovely spot to visit. The architecture & art was beautiful, too.

This beautiful church is well worth the 3 euros entrance fee. It is situated at the Zattere near the Accademia bridge. It has a well proportioned exterior and beautiful baroque interior graced by a superb ceiling by Tiepolo and paintings by Tintoretto and Ricci . The lovely baroque altar has been restored recently. The five bells of the bell tower... More

Staying in Giudecca

Neighbourhood Profile
Giudecca is a retreat for Venetians away from the crowds. Symbolically, six metal teeth represent Venice’s six sestieri (districts); the seventh, Guidecca, points away from the others – part of Dorsoduro, but separated by the Giudecca Canal. Giudecca evolved from a center of shipyards and factories to a quiet residential area with a sprinkling of restaurants and bars. The majestic harmonious Redentore church stands as thanks for delivering Venice from the plague, hosting an annual heartfelt festival.
