The old Roman amphitheater is being restored and preserved currently (Dec 2017) and I don't think you can actually go inside at this time. You can see it from above through the fence if the plant growth is too bad.

This is a new dig, the excavation of Cagliari's Roman Amphitheatre. Unfortunately they were charging an arm and a leg, so we viewed it and snapped photos from the street overlooking the grounds. Would have wished to be more welcomed in.

Like others have said, there is not a lot to see close up and possibly not worth the (admittedly small) fee to go down into the amphitheatre. We were told that more access will be provided later in 2018, so might be worth checking then....More

Athough the anfiteatro offers spectacular views over the city of Cagliari, I doubt it is worth spending money on an entrance ticket at the moment, as renovation works are in progress.

We visited when there was restoration work taking place (although it looked like it had been going on for years). This meant the only public access was down a short slope on the west side of the site. This took you down to the upper...More

It is a Roman amphitheater, but not much detail is remaining. I have seen many such amphitheaters around the Mediterranean that are more interesting and in a better state of repair. Much of this site can be seen from the adjacent road

Went here early morning so the walk was not too hot. Nice site but only limited access at present. You can get to go down the walkway but not into the anfiteatro itself. Most of the site can be Sen from the road.

This Anfiteatro Romano is a testimony of the Roman past, but it`s a pity that they don`t care about it.

You can actually see this from the sidewalk which runs around the outside perimeter...handy because there is a lot of work going on to restore the site and it is shut to the public while the contractors carry it out. Given time (?) it'll re-open...More

A few of us climbed up the hill to find the amphitheatre, direction signs were poor. The closer we got the less inviting the surrounding. We walked by used syringes and other hazards before turning back to the town. I did want to go inside...More
