We love seeing all the Anfiteatros throughout Italy and Greece. We were only able to look through the fence at it. It's on a lovely avenue and worth a look.

We hiked up a hill in the searing heat to visit the amphitheatre, unfortunately it's under renovation. We had a look through the fence and managed to take a few pictures. I Wish I could have toured it.

This is currently closed to the public but you can see through the fencing and get the overall effect. There is a large crane in the centre and much work going on to remove old seating and perhaps install new. Worth a look if you are in town but not worth travelling very far.

You can see parts of the original amphitheatre, but no visits of the interior are possible at present. There is a JCB parked in the centre and the staging is in a terrible state. Go if you haven't had the chance to see Roman ruins before, and for the views over Cagliari, but don't expect to spend more than a... More

This was closed to the public due to renovation, but I did manage to view it through the fence and take a few photos. I could see why it was closed, due to its poor state. I noticed quite a bit of metallic seating had been added to what ancient architecture remains, to provide an idea of an amphitheatre. I... More

Anfiteatro Romano di Cagliari is interesting for history-lovers, but for others just a collection of old stones. About a 20 minutes walk from old Castello.

This is not the greatest Roman Amphitheatre in Europe but still worthy of a visit. Walking under the amphitheatre and having an enthusiastic archaeologic student point out various rooms was the highlight of this visit. The student gave a brilliant insight on how certain rooms were used for injured gladiators, caging animals and unfortunate souls. She pointed out where chains... More

The site has been used as a building stone source for other buildings as so often happened with antique locations, but plenty remains to get a good idea of the scale of this amphitheatre, The very knowledge guide was excellent explaining how it all worked in gruesome detail. The site will be closed while the seating and staging is renovated... More

This must have been a staggering sight and site in its day. Right now, it is impressive ruins to be visited with the friendly knowledgable guide. It is no longer used for shows as the modern fixtures are ruinous, but work will shortly sweep these aŵay and render the site even more impressive.
