Nothing special, after all there are so many more beuatiful churches in Catania
Aug 2019
We passed by there while we were strolling in the streets of Catania (actually getting back to our parked car).
There are many more spectacular churches in Catania so I wouldn't recommend going there intentionally, unless of course I have missed something.
If you find or know what makes this church worth the detour so make it, otherwise, stop there on your way to a more interesting site.

Dear Sir/Madam, You should had at least bothered to pay for the guided tour: what you deemed not "spectacular" enough or not "worth the detour" it is actually a church in Franciscan style rich with history... there is much more than what meets the eyes. Before judging what you don't know, you should have acquired the knowledge.

Beautiful and peaceful

Nothing then a spectacular church. Another one dedicated to my beloved St. Agata. It was the first Cathedral of catania destroyed many times by earthquakes and eruptions. The highlight is the paint of Martirio di S.Agata. Under the church there is a crypt worthy to visit!

Great experience, and you can go all the way to the top!

We stayed in Catania for 5 days, and only spotted this beauty on the last day by chance. It is not well marketed, but when you enter it takes your breath away with some amazing architecture. For a small fees you can also go all the way to the top.

There are many churches in Catania and they are all worth looking at. Thus particular one has its own charm.

Patron saint of Catania
Sep 2015
Unfortunately only saw the outside as it was closed. The history of this Saint is amazing and there is another church where you can see the prison in which she was kept.

Sweaty!
Aug 2015 • Couples
While the place is lovely, there was no air conditioning and my partner and I were far too hot to enjoy it. Also, while I understand covering up is respectful the woman at reception tossed two scarves at me with a very judgemental look. My partner was wearing the same length of shorts and tshirt and he did not have to wear anything extra, while I had to wear scarves damp with somebody else's sweat.

Striking

By contrasting the marble and lava stone, this church has a distinctive appearance. The exterior statuary says it all. The altar and interior is not the most impressive of other Italianate structures.

Lovely church - catch a concert there
Apr 2015 • Friends
The church is worth a visit (usually open between 9 & midday) - massive chandelier in the middle.
We went to a concert on Easter Sunday there (6 euros) and to the Easter Vigil. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and happy to speak Italian to you more slowly!

Small but precious

It is the first cathedral in Catania, dedicated to S. Agata. It is the highest of three churches representing the holy places of S. Agata life.
