It was a beautiful palace & chapel but expensive at 19€/pp. my guide book says the upper floor of the apartments are closed tues through thurs…I do not know if the price is reduced on those days..the sign at the ticket booth did Not indicate that it was.
You will go through security like at the airport & then there is a bathroom for 50 cents & same for the one at the back side near the royal garden (can be skipped) & small cafe (another larger cafe on 2nd floor)
Part of why I gave a 3 is because there is NO audioguide & no information signs/place cards, so you have no idea what you are looking at, except for maybe in 3 spots over the entire place, & I think only 1 or 2 had English. Luckily I had my guide book that explained almost all the areas. We spent 1.5 hr including the gift shop & WC(can be done in 1 hr)
Tip: outside before you go in, there is a someone selling guide books…not sure how much but might be worth it?
Also, Not sure there is an elevator. I saw 1, but it was not in use..,

The entrance fee is steep at €19 but we thought it was worth it, if only to see the Capella Palatini which is absolutely amazing.

We were blown away by the 12th century mosaics which are jaw dropping - but I guess if mosaics/churches are not your thing you probably shouldn’t bother. Don’t overlook the painted, moulded ceiling of the chapel which looks like something from the Alhambra and would merit a chapter of its own if it wasn’t put in the shade by the bling on the walls; a fascinating mixture of cultural influences.

The rest of the palace and the garden are interesting but not exceptional - with the honourable exception of the tower room in the royal apartments which has yet more splendid mosaics of a secular nature including a pair of wonderfully cross eyed cheetahs.

Overall it should be on your agenda if this sounds appealing but a 4 star rather than 5 star as the ticket price is high compared to everywhere else in Palermo.

Don't waste your time. 15.50 euros to see some modern art exhibit (about a dozen pieces) in one room. Then go down some stairs to see some historical artifacts ( at least these were interesting). Then up to the courtyard to look at some carriages (100 feet away). Upstairs to the chapel (very nice but small). Then out to walk through some gardens. Done. Oh and .50 euros on top of that to use the washroom. In and out in less than an hour. Ridiculous price for what you see. Wouldn't do it again.

Two stars because the palazzo is historically significant and contains some beautiful things well worth seeing.
However, the experience is ruined by the staff, which is extremely officious and unhelpful, even by Italian standards.
Logistics are another massive failure, as there is one single rest room available for visitors with a correspondingly long line AND a 50 cent fee -- and this after spending a whopping €19 for admission.
That is disgraceful.

Whilst I was in a queue for the tickets, I had a read through the previous reviews.

There is a range from “brilliant” to “awful”( mostly positive)

Essentially, we had a wonderful time. The combination of the majesty of the Norman Palace, the incredible Art and mosaics within the Palatine chapel, an exhibition of the historic walls and foundations and the added bonus of an art exhibition were, in my opinion, entirely sufficient to justify the relatively steep price (of course you get a discount if you’re still within the EU, but us Brits have to pay the full price of €19 per head).

We arrived at lunchtime, I suspect some of the previous problems have been when people have arrived later.

A good hour and a half’s entertainment
Well worth the effort

A must do when in Palermo. Beautiful mosaics, what a splendour. The building itself, the seat of the Sicilian parliament, is also great, just as the gardens surrounding it. This is a very nice spot in general.

Not worth 19€ per ticket!
Unbelievable, you pay 19€ for a ticket and the 0.50€ for each use of toilet! This is UNSEEN!!! 💯 Versailles costs similarly and is 10 times larger and more interesting.

The chapel is really beautiful and it is worth visiting. However, the ticket is incredibly expensive. And they still have the audacity of charging you if you want to use the toilets. Really...

It should be much more clearly sign posted at the ticket office that the royal chambers are closed during the week also the ticket price should be reduced. Also they should tell you.

The chapel is nice but 50Euros for just that and the gardens for a family of four is way too much. Plus another 2Euros if you all use the toilet facilities.

With hindsight I would not pay more than 30 for 4 during the week.
