Look. If you want a magical experience, surrounded by Italian families laughing until (in some cases) they cry, with kids having a wonderful time, watching an expression of artistry which is just in a league of its own and puppetry which involves swords being drawn, sword fights, heads getting chopped off, on one occasion a face getting chopped off (to... I've noticed that most people are reviewing the theatre and the experience, but very little about the actual content. That's like reviewing a cinema without mentioning the film, so I'm going to give my interpretation of the puppet-based play, drawn from a lifetime of watching obscure dubbed kids TV and a tiny smattering of Italian. There's a knight - Orlando,... More

The puppet theatre is tucked in a side road opposite the Cathedral and is easy to miss. Inside a small room is a tiny puppet theatre run by the same family since its inception early in the 20th C. The commentary and the introduction was all in Italian but it didn't matter because you get the gist of what's going... More

Meeting some of the people behind the scenes before the show was was a treat because the owners are so enthusiastic. The show itself was great fun! It didn't matter if you could not speak Italian because it was usually clear what was happening on stage. It was melodramatic to say the least. The action scenes were astounding when people... More

Adults loved this view into Sicilian culture and historical events of Palermo. Children loved the magic of the moving puppies, the action and the humor. Wouldn't have missed it! On the downside we were in a tight, hot room and most of the dialog was not understandable, since everything is in Italian. Another scandinavian family with kids left half way.... More

What a great way to step into a different era. I loved my evening here. Grabbed a Saturday night show (the weekend shows are at 6:30p). All in Italian, but the vibe and energy of the show and the art of the marionettes will translate. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by families with young children, and definitely half... This was a high point of my trip to Palermo. It felt a privilege to be in the audience and be taken back to a time before cinema and television. The performances start at 18.30 on Saturday and Sunday. They didn't seem to take bookings so I was outside at 17.55 and queued to get a ticket. This got me... More

A labor of love and craftsmanship by the family Cuticchio. The puppets themselves are a sight to behold, as is the theater. Very enjoyable. Best to reserve tickets before as the theater is small and fills up fast.

I went along to the puppet opera this evening. While I couldn't understand a word of the dialogue (it's in the old Sicilian dialect), the experience was a feast to behold. The puppets are fantastically made and dextrously handled by the operators. Astonishing that only four people operate the whole show! Only slight fly in the ointment is that the... More
