I was wandering around trying to find the wild boar bronze as I had seen it before. His snout is well polished by the amount of hands that have been on it. I saw people putting their hand in its mouth and then rubbing the snout with water from the mouth. it is worth seeking out as it is beautifully... More

The statue sits next to a market named after it, and both are not quite living up the promises. the statue is.. a statue. promising to bring good luck to whoever touches it's (weary) nose. the market is also quite dull, but pass by if you're already there.

We never planned a visit to this statue of the pig. But we were shopping leather items in the best market and so this cute thing with tourists thronging around it.My wife knew about the statue. I dutifully rubbed the pig's nose( it has become shiny with constant touch) and dropped the coin in its mouth. The money goes to... More

Local market place ... leather items available and food vendors ... very common for visitors to donate money via his mouth and photo opportunity

The little piglet is a bronze statue, which has a tradition, where one puts a coin to its mouth & wish to come back again to this place. The place is always crowded, so be very careful of Pickpockets at all times as advised by our Tour guide. Nothing great but it is nice to see traditions of different countries,... More

You must stop by and rub the boar's nose for good luck. You can see where the bronze is wearing off on him from everyone doing this. It's a fun little diversion found right in one of the little leather markers. So, go ahead, touch the pig!!

Rub his snout, put a coin in his mouth, and make a wish! It's best to go when the market is closed (night) or else you'll have to compete for time with the pig. He's very popular.

Rub the nose of the cinghale (wild boar) for good luck as the custom days...fountain is adjacent to a nice tourist market just up from Ponte Vecchio. Nice place to enjoy lunch or a gelato. Multo Bené.

The bronze PIG sitting at the side of the New Market is actually a wild boar, Tourists rub his snout so they will allegedly have good luck. His nose is wearing out and he may have to have a whole new statue soon. Yes, we rubbed his snout! No real bad luck since that time. Knock on wood.

Have visited Il Porcellino on every visit to Florence. The coins are given to a childrens charity. So how disappointed were we to see this Romanian woman steal coins that had not gone down inside the grill. If you see this woman be very careful as she is a thief. I videod her stealing the coins, and when her friend... More
