This is a large piazza near the up market shopping area. The square is surrounded by buildings that house a hotel and many cafes. At the time we visited there was a carousel in the square for children to ride. The piazza looks fantastic at nght with all the lights.

This is a lovely square in the centre of Florence, close to everything from shops to stores to ice cream parlours, half way between the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio, porticos along one side (post office there) and fairly expensive bars with outdoor seating for people watching or just relaxing

It's in the luxury shopping district and there are several clubs and bars/lounges that are open late. It's a nice place to sit and people watch at night for drinks at one of the (overpriced) lounges on either side of the piazza. Of note is that one of the bars is also open really late and sells cigaretttes inside, but... More

I really love the carousel for the children in this Square, so elegant and old. Funny how in a city full of art and famous statues this is the thing I loved the most when visiting the squares. It made me dream.

This square in Florence is lovely and is a great place to stop for a coffee and watch the world go by. There are sometimes buskers in the square who are all brilliant musicians and they add to atmosphere. Worth a visit even if only to just walk through.

Cafes and stores line this square. Gilli is a great place to grab a glass of wine, cappuccino, delectable desserts, or decent tasting pasta.. There are great number of interesting stores at this site including the large department store, La Rinascente. There are also hair salons nearby such as Marios, worth getting a shampoo and blow dry styling. Musicians like... More

Went for gelato here in May 2012 while on our tour with contiki. We passed by on our guided tour in the am and then continued to a larger square. There are many shops and restaurants lining the square. After we parted ways around noon, we came here to eat lunch. We also went to a leather shop to see... More

Piazza della Repubblica is an amazing place to visit, here you will see locals and tourist and a little bit of everything else, from the high end stores to the small shops in the street. Charming restaurants with outside tables to enjoy the view and weather are an affordable option when exploring the city. The Piazza also has a carousel... More

A lively piazza, bustling with both locals and tourists. An old Merry go Round is also found here and like in many piazza's around Florence you will find buskers.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
