Have to be awed by the detailed beauty and sheer size of the buildings, realizing how long ago they were built in an era without today's mechanical devices... All completed using manual backbreaking labor. Hard to fathom the undertaking of such a huge project.

A little crowded but totally worth it. One of the few cathedrals with lots of color; different marbles and stones used in construction. Tours inside are available but we didn't go in. One can also climb to the top of the dome. Again, didn't do that as the line was long. Still, totally worth your time to see.

The Piazza is one of the most visually stunning things we saw on our trip to Italy. We had seen photos in the past but that did not prepare us for the scale and marvel of this Piazza. Bonuses: there are many shops and restaurants around the Piazza and it is centrally located.

The plaza was beautiful, and I love that everything in Florence is walking distance so I can say that everything has a "great location." Il Duomo is beautiful to look at from the outside. Not really worth going in though in my opinion considering the lengthy line and relatively unimpressive decor compared to the outside. There are plenty of shopping... More

Stunning! Worth the visit--- inside and outside. Crowded and busy area. Go early. Climb to the top of the dome is 400+ steps -- not leisurely !

Great place to people watch and take in the sights of Florence. Have a glass of wine, espresso, or even a beer. Loved it.

Beautiful building that is more impressive on the outside than inside. If you want to climb the Duomo remember and reserve a time when booking.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
