The area
Neighbourhood: Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!

This became the night spot for a drink after enjoying downtown Florence and before heading back to home spot. It was a fun spot to stop at.

Just what an Irish pub should be....it gets a little rowdy later int he evening but that is what gives it character and accounts for the trash laying about. People are basically pigs but I don't blame the staff for it.

Don't even consider it!

We were staying in a nearby hotel and because we were a little outside the centre of Florence and wanted somewhere nearby for a quiet drink we thought we'd give this a try. What a mistake!

The place is absolutely filthy, dark and very unappealing. We had one drink and left. I suggest you don't even have one drink....walk on by. Awful.

Filthy and unpolite. The beer is overpriced but very good.

The place is histoical to Florence having been around longer then most other pubs. Having said this, for the rest it's pretty unhospitable and very VERY filthy, the waiters are rude and unpolite in the best case because andusually it is kind of hard to find one (a hint: They are the ones playing with some electronic device somewhere near the cashier) , the beer selection is really good but this does'nt make up for the aperitive "food" that they throw on the counter at a different hour every day (around 7:30 often, that is dinner time and whay past aperitive in my book). The "food" is clearly made up from leftovers and usually burnt to a crisp from the constant reheating, the serving platters are stained with old rancid sauce crusts and it is all JUST DISGUSTING.
P.S. If you thought you have seen it all try the so called rest rooms, the term speleology comes to mind, the words: get a sewer! come to mind also.

A great place for a drink and a chat
James Joyce is a very laid back, spacious environment to get a drink. Instead of bursting at the seems witrh tourists and the men who prey on them, it is a fun, friendly place with a very chill attitude. Its by the river which means you have a great view and there is an outdoor patio with more tables. If you want to actually have a conversation with someone , go to this pub
