This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

There isn't much at the Piazzale Michelangelo, but the view is stunning and you can see all of Florence. We had an afternoon drink at the little restaurant at the top of the piazzale, and enjoyed the sunny afternoon.

I believe I was the only non American college student in attendance. Fun to see, but be sure you go on a nice day to maximize view.

It is worthy to go to Piazza Michelagelo and spend some time during sunset, the view of Florence city is amazing. There are some vendors around for drinks, but not much. Some restaurants close by, but need to book in advance.

A walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo not only grabs you the best view of Florence across the Arno, but also the bronze replica of David (which is actually older than the replica in front of the Palazzo Vecchio), and as a bonus, you can walk down through the Giardino Delle rose just to the west of the piazza.

Simply stunning! Walk here from the Baboli Gardens and you can even enjoy a cold beer whilst you take in the majesty of this beautiful city.

This is the place to go if you want great shots of Rome, especially at sunset. It is very beautiful and I saw a number of proposals the evening I was there. Sunset was at 8:46pm and I got there about 90 minutes to get the best spot, well worth the wait if you want to capture an amazing sunset... More

Travelled by hop on hop off, the views from the piazza were absolutely amazing. You could see the Duomo, the bridge, the tower, fabulous. Fabulous, fabulous.

Great views over looking Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo. During our visit there was a gelato festival. Beautiful bronze statue of David.

It is a nice place to walk to view th e rest of the city along the Arno, very open and spacious. Definitely a good alternative to those worried about the claustrophobia of the Duomo and other good-view spots. But there is still a significant uphill climb from whichever route you take up the garden hillside to get there...

Everyone goes here for the sunset and when you arrive, which I did by local bus but there are also stairs that take you there, I was greeted by wall to wall tourists, there must have been at least 400 people there, all set up for that perfect photo. My advice is head down a level to the bar, grab... More

Staying in Piazzale Michelangelo

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
