This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

A trip to Florence is not complete without a visit here. Here you get to see the most beautiful skyline in the world. Bring a bottle of wine and cups and sit on the steps to soak it all in. If you are healthy and able-bodied make the walk up here. Very steep with steps so not suggested for those... More

A great place to visit to get a fantastic view of Florence from the hillside. Can access via city sightseeing tour bus.

We are in our 60's and made the hike. A beautiful panorama of Florence can be seen from here. Unfortunately, February was not the best time to enjoy the gardens found on the return walk.

A wonderful walk to reach the Piazzale. There was construction/renovation on a majority of the rail while we I visited. The statue of David is great! There are tourist type vendors as well as a few food type vendors. Bring a bottle of water if you walk, or expect to overpay for a drink from a cart vendor.

Amazing views of Florence and the surrounding area. Grab a bottle of wine and some cheese, and head up around sunset for a breathtaking view of the city. Head up a little early to make sure you get a spot on the steps to sit.

Don't hesitate to dedicate some time and energy to visit Piazzale Michelangelo, it offers breathtaking view towards the historical part of Florence. It will cost you only 30 min of walk and some challenging stairs, but I can assure you – it is totally worth it! Even better if you manage to visit the square during the sunset hours: it... More

Staying in Piazzale Michelangelo

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
