This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

It's worth going up there for the views and then the beautiful walk along the river down and across the bridge to Piazza Duomo - you pass many of the sights you have to see in Florence.

Perfect vantage of Florence! Across from the Arno and close enough to get a clear and detailed view of the Duomo, S. Croce, and other landmarks. Yes, it does get crazy busy as it is not the number 1 spot for nothing! Many visitors take the double decker bus or on tour buses, which are fine if you have limited... More

A must visit to see the while of Florence and its wonderful Tuscan surrounds. Just beware there is a bit of a climb to get there.

The views here are second to none. I had a great afternoon here watching the sunset with a bottle of wine and a hundred loud American college students. This should definitely be a must-see on your trip to Florence if for no other reason than taking in the beautiful panoramic view.

Stunning views across Florence, from here. Little souvenir stalls which were fairly priced. Lots of tour guides giving the same information, which was good to know as it means they clearly know their history.

This is the spot to take awesome shots of the city of Florence. You will see crowds camping out during twilight/sunset with their tripods. It really offers an amazing view of the city and I highly recommend a visit.

Amazing view of the city! Try this in the morning when you are not tired. There are plenty of stairs to climb up though so wear comfortable shoes!

This piazza is actually understated and almost plain but so evocative. It is sparse, spacious, open and almost a little film settish. It was a stones through from our digs so as we turned the corner and saw the massive copy of David we were quite awestruck. Very much worth a quiet wonder or dare I say promenade across while... Staying in Piazzale Michelangelo

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
