Piazza di San Marco is not much to look at. It has in its center a statue of General Fanti and numerous benches to relax on. It is also a major transportation hub for busses. The square is dominated by the Basilica di San Marco...More

Piazza San Marco is a very bysy open place right in the center of Florence. But like most other places in this city it is an interesting place with charm.

A block north of the incredible Accademia Galleria (the world-class museum that houses Michelangelo’s original 1501 ‘David’ sculpture) is this unimpressive city plaza/square. In the center is the Monument to General Manfredo Fanti, a soldier and leader for Italian independence and unification. The statue was...More

I found this piazza way too crowded and busy. Constant busses and cars shoulder to shoulder tourists heading to the Academia museum. Yuck Miss it unless you have to pass through going someplace

The easiest way to spot the Piazza San Marco in Florence is to find the 1873 Monument to General Manfredo Fanti, born in Capri. Fanta was key in the mid-19th-century wars of Italian independence. On the north side of the square is a church and...More

We visited the city threw our trip. Before leaving, and due to the fact that our hotel was close by, we made a stop for a small and nice tour before heading back south. Nice. But nothing more

The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a
stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence,

students provides the tranquil surroundings for the
elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read
the daily newspaper. Home to several universities,
including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one
