Amazing authentic experience
May 2019
Chef Sharon Oddson was wonderful, she is so talented and an excellent teacher. We enjoyed making tiramisu, homemade bowtie pasta with a tomato, basil and pecorino cheese with truffle oil sauce and the best chicken my husband and I have ever had. The cream sauce as out of this world. I am so grateful we did this experience as we learned how to make the amazing dishes and have made new friends. Thank you again Sharon.

Awesome Cooking Class
Nov 2016 • Family
We had the most amazing class taught by Sharon. She was entertaining, talented and knowledgeable about both her cooking instruction and Florence. She was able to keep 2 - 18 year old boys interested and happy as well as my husband and me. When the lovely afternoon was finished, we felt as we were enjoying a lovely meal with an old friend.

We would highly recommend spending time with the lovely lady of La Cucina Del Garga!

What an experience! One of our favorite activities on our two week honeymoon through Italy! Sharon was absolutely amazing!

We met Sharon at the restaurant at 9AM. Together, we walked to Mercato Centrale, where we purchased all fresh ingredients for our meal. Back at the restaurant, we made fried squash bottoms, fresh pasta with pecorino, basil and tomato, as well as a chicken dish and a delicious ricotta based dessert.

Upon on return to the US, I immediately re-created the fresh pasta we learned to make - and it was delicious - again! : )

I would recommend this class to anyone - any level of cooking experience! Do not miss out!

Fun, laughter, and delicious food. Most certainly a day to remember.

I'm one of Seven cousins from California who spent the day with Sharon Oddson. We thouroughly enjoyed the day which began with a trip to the mercato. The cooking class was fun, hands on, and informative. The four course meal was scrumptious. The relaxed dining experience followed by wonderful conversation was the perfect wind down for a memorable day. We were charmed by the adorable restaurant with wildly fun artistic ambiance. Sharon's friend and assistant,Nancy Rica Schiff took our photo which I'll post. We were thrilled to learn about her wonderful photography in the dining area off of the kitchen. I look forward to recreating the mouth watering bruschetta with fresh sauted tomatoes, making fresh fettuncine with spring vegetables (tagliatelle primavera), chicken with avacado and truffle cream, and the to die for mascarpone cream parfait. I highly recommend this cooking class as a perfect Tuscan experience.

Best part of our Italy trip! Memories to last forever.

My husband and I had a cooking class with Sharon and it was the best part of our vacation. She is so welcoming and friendly, and made us feel like we were in her home and visiting with a dear friend. We learned so much and enjoyed every minute. We walked to the market and picked fresh ingredients including fruit and vegetables and picked up fresh bread and cheese. She taught us about regional foods found at the market and all the purveyors talked with her as if she was a local celebrity. The meal we made was 4 courses including fresh homemade pasta, a chicken dish invented by her husband, a wonderful pistachio and artichoke with parm dish and dessert. We tried 2 different wines selected for the meal. The cooking class is held in her restaurant which is an artsy and eclectic decor. It was the best 5 hours of our whole vacation, and we returned home and immediately bought a pasta maker and all the goodies to make the recipes again. Simply wonderful experience that I would recommend to everyone!

Best use of your precious time!
Oct 2015 • Couples
I know you're going to Florence to look at art and enjoy the heart of the Renaissance, and you're going to do that, but the real cultural inheritance is in the food. What a treat to spend the morning in Sharon's kitchen! She is originally from Canada, but as we walked through the central market picking out ingredients for our lunch, she exchanged warm greetings with all of her favorite shopkeepers, and it is clear we couldn't have found a more beloved Italian chef! Sign up for her class, express your preferences (we asked for a fish dish), and enjoy a fantastic experience. I do most of the cooking at home, but my husband got the most out of the lesson because he asked so many great questions, and tried so many new things. Just a great use of your precious time!

One of the happiest days of my life... I learned SO much!
Aug 2015 • Solo
I had the most wonderful day learning from genius chef and all-round extraordinary woman Sharon Oddson of La Cucina Del Garga. We met at her restaurant at 9:00 a.m. and began promptly. We shopped for the freshest ingredients from the local San Lorenzo Markets (otherwise known as Mercato Centrale). I now know how to best shop from food markets and exactly what to look for. I thought I was an expert; I realise now I knew nothing! Sharon showed me through the markets, and explained Florentine food with fabulous historical tales. I don't know how she keeps all of those stories and dates in her head! Then we returned to the restaurant and made a four course meal of bruschetta with fresh, sautéed tomatoes; hand-made, lemon-scented ravioli with butter and sage; chicken cutlets with porcini mushrooms; and parfaits of mascarpone cream with fresh raspberries and pistachios. Everything was washed down with some excellent choices of wine. It was never a 'watch and learn' situation, I literally prepared every dish. The class ends after lunch at around 2:00 p.m., and I didn't even notice the hours passing. Sharon is a wonderful teacher and I cannot wait to recreate these incredible dishes with my new La Cucina Del Garga recipe book and apron!

A Must Do in Florence
Sep 2014 • Friends
Cooking with Sharon extends beyond recipes and techniques, both of which she is a master. Her extensive knowledge of all things Italian: culture, traditions, history and geography, enriches your cooking experience. My friends and I have cooked with Sharon many times and in different venues. We consider her to be more than a teacher, she is our friend, a patient, kind and gentle lady. Her recipes are always delicious and easy to execute. Her instruction is lovely and laid back.

Also, don't miss enjoying a meal at La Cucina de Garga on Via San Zanobi. Delicious!!

Highlight of our visit to Florence!!!
Jul 2015 • Couples
Our morning of shopping and cooking and lunch with Sharon was the highlight of our trip to Florence!!! Sharon was incredibly fun to work with, and given her knowledge of Florence, local foods, and cooking, we learned a ton! My husband and I lucked out and were the only two people to sign up for the class, so we got a ton of attention and help from Sharon.

By the way, to sign up, you have to e-mail Sharon/the restaurant directly. She told us that in order to give participants a good experience, she'll limit the class to six people if there are parties who don't know each other and will stretch the class size to up to 10 if it's one big group/family. Let her know of dietary issues, and she easily works around it. I have some lactose sensitivity, so she adjusted the dessert for me, and it was phenomenal!!

The morning began at the market, and it was so fun to see Sharon speak with purveyors she's been working with for decades. We learned a lot about local products-- from rabbit to fish, from porcini mushrooms to cheese. Then it was back to the restaurant (just a five minute walk away). We made bruschetta, chicken with porcini mushrooms (we were so fortunate to visit during porcini mushroom season), bow tie pasta with mint/basil/pistachio pesto, and aforementioned dessert (chocolate and coconut milk concoction). We got to make and cook everything in the restaurant cooking, which was really fun and taught us a lot.

The class concluded with lunch, where we ate what we'd made (happily it all turned out well) and drank a couple of different local wines. I took three cooking classes while in Florence, and this was hands down my favorite. The cost (E 170/person) was a bit steep for us, but totally, totally worth it! Sharon shared the recipes with us, and we've made the pasta and pesto multiple times already, and our class was just a month ago. Thanks, Sharon, for a wonderfully educational, incredibly enjoyable, and delectable experience!
