Just to reiterate what a lot of other people have said on here... Do Not Use GOLDCAR They were really aggressive at the counter when i didn't want to take their insurance... at 5 x the cost of the more comprehensive cover i already had - when i asked the sales assistant to calm down she then started to speak to me in a proper manner. The car was fine, and i took a lot of photos when we picked it up. On return i complied with all their requirements... all seemed fine, then the rep walked over and tried the drivers door key... despite the fact the car had central locking. He started to tell me that the lock was broken and i would need to pay. Needless to say, a quick google reveals this as their most prominent scam! I showed this to him and said i wouldn't be paying, he would need to bring his manager over to explain. He then promptly signed my agreement and said we should go. Needless to say i'm monitoring my credit card for charges and will be taking legal action should they try anything!

Firstly, I will say the car was fine when we picked it up, and no problem when we returned it. BUT, the extremely aggressive attempt to sell us their extra insurance was an appalling start to our holiday. We had taken out our own insurance prior to the holiday (£38 for a year), and when we showed this to the sales assistant she was most dismissive of it and queried that it would cover us for anything! We have used this insurance before, and made a small claim which was settled promptly. So if you want a calm start to a holiday rent from another company.

We rented from this Terrible company. They gave us a car that I'm sure was unroad worth. The staff where rude unhelpful and uninterest. We hired in Rome with a return in Venice they told us they are at Venice airport and even at the airport they have signs they are not at the airport. After call them we keep getting put on hold no one spoke English. So we missed our flight as we couldn't get any information from them. I went into the Avis office at the airport who helped me as gold car weren't interested. I should of just left there car at the airport with the keys in it. The guys at the airport parking told me happens all the time that people get to the airport to find they have no office and miss there flights. So we had to drive back to Rome in the head of rubbish! And pay for extra days no composition from Goldcar for our lost flights. And no at goldcar interested! You get what you pay for terrible service terrible car. Thank you to the guys at Avis that helped us we will be renting from you now on!

I must say I am shocked to read all these posts. Goldcar Pisa recently came to my rescue when Europecar left me stranded at Pisa. I had pre book and paid for a car with Europecar at €160.00. I got to the counter to be told I didn’t have a booking. I showed the booking details. It transpired that Europecar had emailed me at 01.30am that morning as I was travelling to cancel saying no availability.. They did have cars and offered me the same car for €400.00. Total rip off to force me into an awful position to have to pay more than double, they were rude and non caring.. I went over to Goldcar who welcomed me and saved me from an awful predicament. I was traveling alone for the first time. They couldn’t have been more helpful, The car was €256.00 including a tank of fuel and no exess. I was delighted. On my trip I got stuck hours up in the Tuscan hills where I was swimming. I got locked out of my car with everything locked inside. they were fantastic! Only seem concerned for me. The window was smashed to allow me to get in and get back- no excess to pay. On returning the car, the team there where expecting me again asking if I was ok confirming don’t worry about the car.. outstanding service from start to finish, welcoming and friendly even though the car was damaged. I got an email once home confirming nothing to pay. Couldn’t recommend them enough..

In the past I have had positive experiences with Goldcar but they have changed and will now go to great lengths to get you to take out their insurance at €190 pw. My flight to Bologna airport was delayed so Goldcar simply cancelled the booking and would not supply a car unless I took out their insurance. I had paid for the hire in advance and there is nothing in the booking terms to allow them to cancel. They just did it. The only way they will stop acting this way is if people stop booking with them.
