I am staying in Lucca for two weeks and I love walking on and bicycling on the wall that encircles the old city. Lucca seems personable and approachable as one takes a passagiata (the Italian name for a stroll) and observes the Lucchese out for a stroll or a walk with their dogs. I feel like I am observing Italians... More

This is the place to go and enjoy views of the city below while taking in the fresh air and scenery of the Garfagnana mountains! It is excellent place to stroll after/before aperitivo while watching the sunset behind the hills. A must do when you are in Lucca!!

The ancient history of these walls is fascinating, keeping Lucca free of Florentine control for centuries. A road runs along the walls, for walking and bikes etc. A leisurely amble for an hour sees you around the whole city, with stops etc. On a fine day, great views into the town, and the countryside. Wall accessible from different points, and... More

Not many towns have an intact Roman wall so there's something special about walking/jogging/cycling here, especially if it's a beautiful sunny day. And you come across all kinds of interesting, historical issues and you can stop and relax at one of the bars or on a seat; a wonderful place

It wad a nice leisurely half day visit to the wall and downtown Lucca. Very beautiful. I enjoyed the slow paced lifestyle of the people here.

The wall surrounding the old town of Lucca are an unique attraction for their characteristics. You can have a pleasant walk or a fascinating jogging experience. 4 km long you can have a very nice run. There is also the possibility to have a bike tour.

We chose to bike the wall on individual bikes and it was glorious. Takes about 25min to leisurely pedal around and there are several places to rent bikes, stop and have a coffee, or just soak in the views. There was some construction going on in places but they have made it easy to continue on the path.

A massive construction, gives you a nice walk or ride around the inner city. Amazing to imagine medieval fights around this wall. An engineering masterpiece as well.
