Overview
More
It is called the Leaning Tower or the Tower of Pisa but actually it was never used for defending the city; it is part of the religious complex in the Duomo Square and acts as its bell tower. It played an active role in both human and divine timekeeping with its seven bells – one for each musical note – the largest of which, cast in 1655, weighs a full three and a half tonnes! It is known throughout the world for the beauty of its architecture, for its extraordinary tilt, which makes it an authentic miracle of statics, and for the fact that it stands in the universally renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, of which it is certainly the prize jewel. And this is why it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

The leaning tower is the main attraction in Pisa. Although, all of the buildings in Pisa lean..that's just what happens when you build in a swamp. On your drive to Pisa be on the look out for the leaning tower, you can see it from...More

I'd say it is worth seeing in person because you get a sense of how tilted it actually is, but I wouldn't call it a must-see – if you are in the area in hop by to Pisa to see it. You can climb the...More

Hawkers everywhere. Super hot in summer. Overrun with tourists and selfie getters. Bit overrated Having said that, it’s a very impressive structure to see up close & in person. Go there, get some photos, get a cold drink, get on your way.

The place is geared for tourists and is very crowded in the summer. The heat is also intense but what a sight to behold! Definitely worth a visit.

I think this tower along with the other buildings next to it are magnificent. It costs 8€ to enter the tower. They set up different times every quarter I think, so you book in advance when you want to get up there.

We didn’t go in. You can see it if you go inside the walled city. I don’t think they close any gates or draw bridges. Go see it and get a cappuccino!

You should be fine, there is around 230 steps but they only let 30-40 people up at any one time so there’s no rush, I never saw anyone struggle and I saw all ages. Just take your time and enjoy the view, well worth the... More
