The palace of the mayor is one of the most important buildings in San Gimignano. It is always worth to see, even from outside. Due to our short time budget, we couldn't go inside, what would been interesting. There is also a museum inside.

Torre Grossa is the highest tower in San Gimignano, a fantastic medieval town located in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. I am almost sure that it is a bell tower, where there is a very interesting museum of the history of San Gimignano, where you can see objects, paintings and explanations about the history of the town. Also, you can enter to the Pallazzo Comunale and see some official rooms. While you go up to the tower, you can see some very interesting videos about he history of the city and when you arrive at the top of the tower, you can see top views of this medieval town. Wonderful! Also, I came here with my 3 years old daughter (in August-2019) and she enjoyed a lot going up and down, seeing the videos and hearing the music, and seeing the charming views from the tower. A top for adults and children in Tuscany, in Italy, in Europe and probably on world. …

The largest of the famous San Gimignano towers and the only one that you can climb. Interesting as this tower is, what is the best thing about San Gimignano is that you get to see so many towers all in the one place. Of course there were many more in its heyday in the 14th century – up to 70 or more. Including Torre Grossa, about 14 towers are still standing and its absolutely fascinating to see them all in one town, clustered together. You get an impression of what the town might have looked like at the height of its power. Built originally as defensive towers to protect the owners from attacks from outsiders (and also from other local families), the towers evolved into status symbols. Building a bigger, better tower to outdo your neighbours became a kind of informal sport in this town. Having the tallest tower couldn’t be a more ostentatious, in-your-face display of your wealth and power. Torre Grossa was built in 1310 and is the tallest (54m). If you are climbing it just for the view (€9), I’d suggest a free alternative is to walk up the hilltop to the old ruined fortress. The views are maybe not quite as good but they are comparable. You still get a wonderful view back over the town and absolutely panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.…

Once there were 72 towers and only 14 survive. Torre Grossa is the tallest tower in San Gimignano, with 54 m. It is one of the best known of Tuscany's medieval towers. It was built in 1310. You can't miss seeing in when walking down the narrow streets of the town or when you get to the square.…
