This is a must for any visitor to Siena. Extraordinary. A class act of a museum. I take groups to Siena and this is always at the top of the list. No one is ever disappointed in Museo Archeologico.

The architecture is superb. The views from the Duomo overlooking the valley make the climb worthwhile. This is one of the can't miss things to do in Siena.

We went to visit this museum with a local guide who had actually been born here when it was the hospital. The hospital was built over the underground city, most of which was medieval and built over the Roman and Etruscan cities. It really helped to have a guide to tell us the significance of many of the exhibits and... More

For the price of seeing the old hospital that served Siena for centuries, one can also visit the museum of archeology and see the Etruscan artifacts but you must be prepared wander in this miraculous old building. If necessary, just follow the uscita signs in order to find your way out!

**about 50% of the rooms on the map are closed - Very poor lighting with very few worthwhile pottery pieces. Some Roman eroded/damaged marble cremation internment urns and containers - basically for school field trips

If you're interested in ancient Siena, this is a great expedition (pun intended - as in archeological expedition). For 9 euros for all areas of the museum, the price is reasonable. We spent an hour before lunch and plan to return after for more. It is fascinating.

When visiting Sta Maria della Scala we went down to this incredible place, down in the basements. Artifacts from the Etruscans, a beautiful jewelry collection and incredible art lies in these crypts. Amazing experience.

Our life is in ruins. That is my husband and I are retired Americans who travel to ruins and archeological sites. We spent 3 weeks in Greece and now visit this fabulous museum. We arrived with no idea that Sienna had such antiquity. We expected dark ages and medieval enlightenment. Instead we found the most organic and dynamic display of... More

We stumbled upon this museum while wandering the crowded streets of Siena and we decided to come in as I wanted to see a temporary exhibition advertised outside. Little did we know that are not only to see that but walk around for hours, tempted by the sight of treasures after treasures to discover and admire. Put some comfy shoes... More
