green escape
Jun 2021
a little valley just outside one of the city gates, the Orto de Pecci offers a green escape with a nice restaurant just close by. a historic little garden, some animals around and plenty of ground for children to play make it a popular family place.

magic medieval garden
Aug 2020
a magical green paradise in the middle of medieval Siena, (goats and peacock included). The history, the garden, the pici at the restaurant, the kindness of the people made this experience, the high of our day in Siena, for adults, kids and even adolescents.... Highly recommended

Cute but reserve lunch in advance
Aug 2019 • Family
An cute little quiet park outside the main town area of Siena. It was a nice chance to get away from the crowds and see some green. We arrived at 12:30 on a Wednesday in August and the restaurant there was already booked, despite many outdoor tables. Recommend booking in advance. Cute for kids, but my teen liked it as well, just because it was an alternative to culture and museums, and felt like a secret getaway.

Pros and Cons
Jul 2019 • Couples
Pros: Peaceful w/plants/trees/animals

Cons: Rude staff

I have an obsession with donkeys so when I read online that this place had one, we made a special trip to it.

Our hotel breakfast was over at 11 so we headed there right after. It was hot and walking down the gravely hill in sandals was not a great idea.

Once we got to where the restaurant is, we were approached by a man asking if he could help us, we asked if we could buy water and he pointed to a faucet for us to refill our water bottle. We wanted to BUY COLD WATER...

We walked down past the goats and big metal looking head to where the medieval garden is and it was interesting with lots of vegetables/plants/fruit trees.

We walked back by the “goat side” and didn’t see the donkey. We approached the outdoor tables and asked a waiter if we could sit down for drinks, it was hot out. He said NO, lunch only but if we wanted to buy drinks we could order inside and sit at the tables that were not set up for lunch... under the sun and off to the side. I was NOT IMPRESSED.

Anyway, we bought water and soda and started our way back out up the hill. Luckily my husband spotted the toilet sign and while I waited under the tree, I spotted THE DONKEY!

Friendly and fun

A local tour guide suggested this park and restaurant to us and we're happy we went for dinner. The pizza was great and the place was full of locals. It's so inexpensive and the park is very pretty and away from the crowds. I highly recommend it for a casual local experience. Check the hours before going.

Unexpected excellent lunch in a perfect fall setting

This is definitely where the locals come for great food. We’ve spent the past two weeks in Italy — in Rome, Venice and now in Siena — and this is one of the best, most enjoyable meals we’ve had. The service was friendly and professional, and the location made us feel as if we stumbled upon a hidden gem. We will definitely recommend this to friends.

Lovely!

Lovely cheap place with delicious food. I love the fact that it's a 'social cooperative' meaning that it also does some good. The view of Siena is great and it feels like you are in the countryside, when you are actually still so close to Piazza del Campo. I would definitely go again. I'd recommend to have the Pici all'aglione. Delicious!

This place is such an unusual one to find in Siena. There’s a small farm with goats, donkeys, ducks and a tortoise with a large field..ideal for kids.We even met a peacock. The restaurant... what to say: We had our dinner there and the food was great!! We recommended this amazing place to all our local friends...who did not know about it 😁😁

Enjoyable Space Just Outside Siena City Walls
Jun 2018 • Solo
I had heard about this area/path from a tour guide (during our tour of the town hall) and I decided to check it out on one of my morning walks through/around Siena (we are in Siena for the summer). The path is a great place for a serene walk through a parklike/farmlike setting, with great views looking back at the skyline of Siena. You see grape vines, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and some farm animals along the way. At the end there is a small botanical garden (signs are all in Italian). There is also a pizza place that is supposed to be good (was closed during my walk). It is a big of a hike up a little hill as you come back into Siena, but of course Siena is full of little hills to climb :). I highly recommend taking a walk down this lovely path when visiting Siena.

An unusual place in siena
Oct 2017 • Couples
Far from the tourists, far from the confusion is the Orto de pecci. A very calm place in the fields, and a good place to practice sports and have a walk. It also has some very kind animals and a restaurant. You should try because it has a magnificent view.
