This is not the entrance to the Basilica complex, as some people seem to believe. This road runs from Via Arnaldo Fortini to Piazza del Comune. It is lined with souvenir shops, restaurants and the entrance to Foro Romano Museum

Most people believe that Via Portica is the main square below the Basilica. This is incorrect. Via Portica is a short street that changes name to Via Giotto and connects Piazza del Comune with Via Arnaldo Fortini. It is lined on each side with many restaurants and stores. As you climb Via Portica towards the Piazza, you are afforded a very nice view of Torre del Popolo.…
