At one end of the city, a rise in the ground accommodates this very old church on a spacious open area. It is circular, which is unusual though not unique. It is has been fortified over time with handsome arches inside that add to the impressive effect. You go there if you are interested in the complicated history of a... More

This is the one place in all of Perugia that my wife and I never want to miss and always try to visit. It is a bit of a walk from the centre, up the hill after the Porta Etrusca, but very rewarding. A quiet and still place in which it simply is wonderful to linger, even for just a... More

An unusual round church right on the edge of the town, but worth the effort to get there (lots of ups and downs!). The inside is airy with a 'tent' roof supported on a ring of columns recycled from earlier structures. It is the oldest church in town, dating from 5th & 6th Centuries, and is set in a grassy... This small round church dates to the 5th century and is built on the remains of a pagan temple. It is also known as the Temple or Church of San Michele Arcangelo, as it’s dedicated to the Archangel Michael, whose churches were often built in elevated spots like this. It’s commonly called St. Angelo’s. Its circular structure is based on... More

On July 11 2010 I got married in Tempio di Sant'Angelo. It has been a wonderful experience and the cerimony was perfect, with the 3 priests who were with us, Don Mario Rabica priest of Castello delle Forme, the Archibishop of Gubbio Don Mario Ceccobelli and Don Mario Pomara. For my wife and I it has been a joyful moment.... More

Whatever your religious affiliation may or may not be, one cannot escape the deeply spiritual atmosphere of this circular Paleocristian church built in the 5th century. The church itself is beautiful in its simplicity. Just sitting quietly in the church gives one a feeling of connection with the Eternal. The Tempio is at the end of Corso Garibaldi, a 15... More

As I was wandering the streets I ran into Tempio di Sant'Angelo. I enjoyed sitting outside on the grass and admiring it! The inside was simple but also worth visiting!

OK, so you think that you have seen more than your fair share of churches in Perugia. Well you have seen nothing like Tempio di Sant'Angelo. It is so unique both in its architecture and setting that it is for me one of the highlights. It has simplicity, charm and a certain excitement that takes your breath away. The church... More

Serene and old. One understands how short one's own life is in a building that is a millenium and a half.
