Not quite finished yet but small well-curated exhibition in meantime, good space

Still being constructed so some floors/areas closed but compact temporary exhibition of key works. Great space - spanning one of the mill streams. 10 min walk up hill to tram... read more

A superb gallery of permanent and temporary exhibitions of cutting edge contemporary art of very high quality. Video art is something which often leaves us baffled but here the quality of the work had a profound impact on us as did the other challenging works. This Art Gallery for Contemporary Art is located on the banks of the Rhein and... More

Please ignore the ignorant comments by people who's appreciation of art probably stops if it's not a painted horse. The collection is magnificent and the focus constantly changes. It's always worth a visit. Also there is a small and lovely bookshop opposite of the entrance

The Kunstmuseum is currently closed and some of their artworks have been relocated to the Gegenwartskunst including an excellent self portrait by Van Gogh which I think is the jewel of the collection. The permanent artworks weren't to my taste. The museum is a little off the beaten track which is a about a 10 minute walk from the Kunstmuseum... More

The museum building itself is superb - large galleries, and with excellent lighting. However, with the exception of a floor devoted to interesting art works from the currently closed Kunstmuseum, there is little to warrant a visit. The permanent collections are mostly an insult to ones intelligence - grainy black and white videos showing 'artists' working, reciting boring poetry(?), and,... More

This is a nice museum, located in a modern building, in a lovely part of Basel. We came there especially to see some of the best bits of the closed Kunstmuseum (due to renovation) but also enjoyed all their other pieces. A great place to visit! This summer you do not have to pay admission, due to a gift by... More

A relatively small, concrete-style museum of several floors dedicated to contemporary art, this building is located somewhat out of the center of Old Town and down by the Rhein River. At the time we went, the museum was in part standing-in for Basel’s principal venue, which is the Kunstmuseum currently undergoing extensive renovations and expansion. So, the Gegenwartskunst was showing... More

With the Kunstmuseum being closed for renovations, we resorted to visiting the temporary exhibit which was open here for free to the public. The selected works from Cesanne to Richter felt well thought through, and the presentation was perfect for one hour viewing. It was an appetizer for the beauties one could see at the Konstmuseum once it will reopen.... More

Firstly I do agree that at times the Gegenwartskunst museum can be a little frustrating with wierd shows. However I think this latest offering is worth a visit. Another plus is that until the end of 2015 it's free. So what's there now? A mix on different floors of Frank Stella from the U.S. With painting and drawings from the... More

While the Kunstmuseum is being renovated the Museum for Contemporary Art has a small but beautiful exhibition of paintings from their collection,Cezanne to Richter. The museum is free and we paid 2 francs for the audio guide--worthwhile in our opinion. I thought this exhibition was absolutely fantastic. It's a manageable size and the paintings are top quality. The space is... More
