Basel's old town is nice, if not very big. We walked through it on our first day of a longer tour, and it was a pleasant first day. There is some shopping and it isn't too big to enjoy in a couple hours.

Several planned walks available in brochure from Tourist information. Area around the Marketplace takes you through Basel's history from the middle ages to the present. From the bright red City Hall to views of the modern pharmaceutical industry buildings and factories on the Rhine.

Basel is having a very nice old town, nice shops, clean and ordered as usual for Switzerland. It is already a different mentality with respect to Zürich, more confusion and less people in center.

Whilst you can shop for just about everything if you take time to see past the modern shop interiors you will see some stunning architecture and a city that has a historic past. Well worth visiting if you like buildings, history and shopping

You should lose your way a bit throught the small streets of the city. You would discover many nice shops, cafes and such. The old city is not that big so you can cover good ground in few days.

My river cruise with Grand Circle Travel starts from Bazel. Since I will have a few hours before sailing, can I get a taxi to go to Old Town and approximately how much? Is there public transportation from the port to Old Town?

Actually you can also pick up some very good deals in Basel now, just away from the city centre. Go to Booking.website. Walking and taking the tram is very convenient in Basel.
