The Tavel House was built in the 12th century. After a great fire, was reconstructed and then, in 1963, the city of Geneva bought it and remade the house into the museum of history of Geneva. We, now, have the privilege to visit Maison Travel for free. There are several floors (and an elevator) and in each floor, various exhibits,... More

We stumbled upon it when we left the Saint Pierre Cathedral, so we decided to enter since it was recommended here on TA. The price was good (yay for free museums!) and it's divided in different floors, each one of them has a piece of history of the place or the city. Don't miss the -1 and -2, you may... More

The maison Tavel is in the old town, located between the hotel de ville and the cathedral. Its entrance is free (except for the temporary exhibition). On the ground floor, there is a nice documentary to watch that explains in a very smart way the history (from an architectural point of view) of geneva, how the city expanded onto the... More

The oldest house in Geneva which is now a friendly museum. Lots of history. Not much information in English so research first and enjoy!

When in Geneva, take every advantage of experiences without obscenely high prices. The museum was an old house (I'm assuming with some additions - I was reading French solely through my mediocre Spanish-language lens, so I missed some points), with a period-themed apartment, repurposed basement market, a model of medieval Geneva, and other pieces from the canton. Highly suggest visiting!... More

There is an outstanding audio visual display when you enter that gives you a great overview of the history of Geneva and how it has developed over the years.
