The old town is easy to walk around, with lovely architecture, shops and interesting sights to see. Its fairly compact and some traffic free streets, especially nice at night. we spent couple of hours just wandering around.

We did an independent walking tour by ourselves and stopped for dinner. Including an hour for dinner it took about two about 3 hours.

I haven't visited bern... but Lucerne is good laid back place with lots of places surrounding it to visit and also can enjoy nightlife in Lucern
