We drove up to the Munot fortress and parked close by (if you have had enough of steep climbs and have a car). It is an unusual circular castle like structure that looks across Schaffhausen. The views from the top were pretty spectacular. It was pretty bare inside but the architecture was so interesting it made the visit worthwhile.

The Munot is a medieval circular fortress which design originates from Albrecht Dürer. From there you have a wonderful view over the city of Schaffhausen and at the river Rhein underneath. During the sommer time one can enjoy every Saturday dancing in the circular court.

Once you've braved the steps and reached the top, the views are lovely and the surrounding park is a good place to catch some sun. There's a running track, basketball court and some workout equipment, if you are into that sort of thing. Several events are held in the actual building during the summer - movie nights, concerts, salsa. A... More

Lovely 12 century fortress on a hill overlooking Schaffhausen, vineyards, and the Rhein. Not for the mobility impaired. Wear good walking shoes. If the weather is good, you will be rewarded with excellent views. Not much in the way of English descriptions, but well preserved fortress to Help transport one back into time. Go for a gelato at the bottom... More

An amazing place and a great view of the beautiful city of Schaffhausen. For the less able to walk up many steps to reach the site I advice taking the # 4 Bus across the street from the central train station for 3 stops. this will take you to a slope down short walk to the site and a great... It is a great hike up a lot of steps but the view alone is worth it. The little park and area around the Munot is a nice walk as well.

Absolutely worth the walk if you are in Schaffhausen. Placed over the city it offers beautiful view from above. And it is very impressive itself.

Being an American living in Schaffhausen, I still have trouble wrapping my mind around a fortress built over 500 years ago. The interior of the fortress is a cool scene with the natural lighting from above. The views from the top are the best in town. We bring every guest we have to the Munot.

Sitting at the top of a hill, it was quite a hike up stairs to get there. Though after being on the top, we found that you can drive a car there. The stairs were between rows of grapes which was really neat. They had some reindeer in the "moat" area so was nice watching them. Top top had an... More

Above the medieval Old Town of Schaffhausen stands the imposing Munot fortress. The houses of the Old Town are decorated with oriel windows and painted facades. The town is surrounded by vineyards. The fortress is most impressive. We took pictures from afar. Designed by famous artist Albrecht Dürer, the stronghold dates back to the 1500s. WE could see far and... More
