We visited near the end of ski season and took a cable cart to first where we walked to the lake, a decent pair of walking shoes/boots makes life easier along with some walking sticks but its Completely worth the snowy trek, stunning indescribable views along the way.

Well worth the short hike of around an hour to reach Bachalpsee from the First gondola station. Stunning views, and if you're lucky enough to go on a calm, clear summer's day, when the surface of the lake is like glass, the view of the Finsteraarhorn reflected in the lake is superlative. Well worth its tripadvisor certificate of excellence!

We visited First in August after a morning visit to Jungfraujoch (see our other review). The hike from First to Bachalpsee is 3 km and took us about 1 hour. Even on a cloudy day, the scenery is beautiful (see photos). It's not a very popular hike, which made it peaceful and all the more enjoyable. We saw more cows... More

Walked past the frozen lake on the trail from First to the Faulhorn. It is in a magnificent location, between spectacular mountains. I guess in the Summer it would be inviting to go for a swim after a long hike.

The trekking/walk to the lake is relatively easy unless you have young kids or elderly. The views there were fantastic. Great for a sunny day

Visited in mid-Dec when the cable car to the First re-opened, and decided to visit the lake as most areas were still closed. We hadn't done any research prior to the visit and so had no idea how long it would take to walk from the cable car station to the lake. Eventually we used around 1.5 hour to arrive... More

Frozen when we were there this time, but in the summer is a great location for stunning photos reflecting the Finstererhorn (I think)

Gorgeous walk (moderate exercise/ability - some steep, rough sections) -- we went from First Cable Car station to Bachalpsee then back down to Bort in just under 2.5 hours. Stunning views and lots of different terrain from mountain side, through forest, fields, etc.

Well worth a visit. Take you camera, hiking boots and just go and explore. You'll love the scenery and shadows of the mountains on the lake.

We hiked with our 8 month old and it took us a good 1 and half hours to get to this place from First. But it was worth it. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and an amazing lake with one facing the mountains and one facing away from the mountain. The hike itself is relatively easy and is doable for a person... More
