I was there for the day- to escape the rain in the Alps.
I viewed the lake from many vantage points in the city, as well as from the tops of Mte. Bre and Mte. San Salvatore.
What a fantastic view and a fantastic place:...More
Lake Lugano prides itself of it's natural look; the beautiful panoramas already fascinated
travelers; there are main attractions and events by lake and to admire the largest jet of water; there is a wonderful promenade to stroll by day and evening.
I came on a bus tour that gave us a half day to buy chocolate at the local Co-op department store, and walk/sightsee as much as possible before getting back on the tour bus. I loved walking and looking at the architecture. Beautiful buildings. Found...More
I came on a day trip from Como which was a quick 40 minute jaunt. I had thought Lake Como was beautiful but this might even surpass it. Even on a cooler autumn day the snow topped mountains set the scene and the golds and...More
We walked the whole of the lovely promenade by the lake.We found an easy car park . It was hazy on our visit so we chose not to do a boat trip but to visit the town. On Sunday all the shops are shut so...More

We took the train from Milan to Como, stayed in Como for a few days, then took the train from Como to Lugano. I know you can take a direct train from Milan to Lugano. The train was fast and easy. You can take a ferry from Lake Como to Mennaggio then a bus to Lugano but the train would be a much faster unless you want to see Mennaggio which is also beautiful.
I don’t know about the day pass for vehicle as I travelled from Zurich by train. Lugano centre is beautiful when walking around the little roads and the lake side is magnificent. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
