Winterthur has 3 very relevant art museums. Oskar-Reinhardt has its collection split between the excellent "Am Romerholz" Villa and the city center located Musem. Tha also has a number of significant masterpieces and also hosts temporary exibitions. If you have time, the Musuem pass will help you reducing the costs and taking advantage of the Museum bus you will also... More

Apart from the overwhelming richness of this collection, I was quite amazed with the temporary exhibition on Sigismund Rhigini, whose powerful use of colours and stylistic elements is quite interesting.

A few paintings (Hodler) and the miniatures were fun to see. Otherwise a lot of mediocre paintings not worth the day trip from Lucerne to see. The Clock Museum in town was much better. The special exhibit in September 2016 was not exciting. Apparently the best holdings are by advanced reservation only?

Oskar Reinhart Foundation Museum hosts an excellent collection of classic masters as well as less known Swiss painters. In my opinion, it's the best art museum in Winterthur so highly recommended to art lovers.

We enjoyed especially Hodler's ample selection of paintings. They span over several decades of the artist's life and show remarkble impressionist and neoimpressionist almost expressionist pieces of art. Anker is an excellent technician but his naturalist works don't bring much innovation but illustrations of the young Swiss state. Giovanni Giacometti is an outstanding user of colors and Valoton is Valoton.... More

The Oskar-Reinhart Foundation Museum is centrally located in the downtown district. There are two floors of exhibit space including stunning and superior quality paintings some dated from the 17-1800’s. Also, running through January 2016, is a separate exhibit of special holdings of Christoph Blocher, which I did not view. There is a separate, additional charge for the Blocher exhibit of... More

If you need to chose just one museum in Winterthur this would not be my choice. The museum in the center of the city has a very good location and good facilities, but its collection of Swiss and German art cannot rival with the art in other museums in the city - it's too big and repetitive. There may be... More

I visited with friends on a rainy day largely drawn by the advertised 'big name' artists but it transpires almost all of those works were out on loan. Nevertheless the collection was interesting and varied and mainly consisted of works by Swiss artists I'd never heard of them so we certainly learned a lot. An enjoyable couple of hours, my... More
