Reconstruction of a 17th century trading ship called Batavia, which sank in 1628 on its first voyage.

At the Bataviawerf the ship is reconstructed in authentic ways. On the shipyard there are several handcrafts still active and can be visited. A visit to the Bataviawerf is a nice daytrip for the whole family.

Excellent reproduction of a classic Dutch trader. Workshops busy preparing another reproduction in progress. These are real ships that smell and feel totally natural. No sliding doors , no phasers , no transporters. The ship is a physical challenge if you really want to explore it....if you do you'll realise that life on board was tough then but normal for... We visited on a cold rainy day however it was great to see it. Quiet and strong waiting for guests to visit her. Very interesting to understand about the great story and state of the Bataviawerf. You can combine it with a visit to the outlet shopping at Batavia stad. Nice place with some restaurants and great choice for everyone... More

I was thrilled to understand the process of land foldering so we went. But to our disappointment it was meant to Dutch kids and rather expensive

A unique experience for both ship conosseurs and beginners: you can explore this (surprisingly big) perfect replica, take a wolk in the shipyard and witness people building ships in an old fashion way and even let the little ones help the blacksmith out! It is worth the trip to Lelystad.

A unique experience to be able to explore this real (modern replica using the ancient ways) VOC ship, and very interesting comments form the guides about the Dutch history and the golden age.

A absolute must for all ship lovers, this is where you appreciate the hardships of the people that went out to explore other worlds in the early days. We had a wonderful guide who explained all it great detail about the Batavia and the 7 Provinces. The ship itself a magnificent replica, you could almost feel the atmosphere as it... More

Impressive Batavia ship, great experience to be able to walk inside, visit the captain's room, canons area etc. Unfortunately the other ship, the 7 provinces, will not be further built. If you are interested in VOC history, this is an absolute must.

Going to Bataviahaven is the perfect combination with a visit to outlet centre Batavia City ( Bataviastad). Volunteers have been working for decades at Bataviahaven with enthousiasm and dedication and that shows! Dutch history at its best!
