Overview
More
The Fries Museum is dedicated to Friesland and the Frisian people. Its activities revolve around the eleven cities that make up the province and the surrounding countryside. These include the Frisians' love-hate relationship with water, the search for what defines the typical Frisian character, and Friesland's place in the wider world. The freedom fighter Grutte Pier's sword; old costumes and clothing; treasures from the Frisian mounds; the legacy of Mata Hari, the exotic dancer who was executed as a spy at the end of the First World War; Gerrit Benner's paintings; contemporary visual art; and the film de Overval: together these objects tell the story of Friesland.

Very expensive museum, 18 EUR. Check the temporaly exhibitions before you go there. If you are interested then it might be worth the price.

lovely museum with an extra exhibition of Escher. Very interesting. The Frisian resistance and Frisian museum both good.

Beautiful time line exhibition of the work of the Dutch artist Escher resumed in a one and half hour visit. Nice to visit with children, the displayed workplace of the artist is interesting and impressive with its magnifying glass and tools.

the exhibition was quite interesting and extensive. I'll probably go again to see things I may have "missed" the first time

This is a big modern building containing the museum space, a cinema, a large cafe, and a store. So lots of things are going on. We were not let into the museum, a big disappointment, because they had sold too many tickets.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this museum. It had a lot of great artwork and collections. We learned a lot about the history of Friesland during our tour.
