- Rob TWindsor, United Kingdom143 contributionsA splendid day outThis was a really good, and well interpreted palace. There is a lot to see and do here - especially in the new underground exhibition space. You get a good insight into the House of Orange and the history of the Netherlands in general. There are two very good audio tours round the house, and the views from the roof are spectacular. Although the gardens were not at their best, and the fountains were not on, it was still nice to walk round them. The cafe in the ball room is decent for food and drink and is nicely centrally located on the site. You could easily spend a day there, especially if you do all the walks.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 March 2024

- Ariyya494 contributionsBeautiful palaceThe palace is beautiful and both the building and the grounds are extensive, one can easily spend the whole day there. It gives a good look into the history of the Netherlands and the House of Orange. The audio tours are helpful. The gardens and stables are also worth a stroll, the latter housing the carriages and cars of the royal family. Restaurant was good too and a nice location to sit and enjoy the good weather. All in all, recommend a visit if you are not short on time.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 4 July 2024

The palace Het Loo is very much up and running in all its splendour. The formal French-designed gardens are magnificent, the fountain is beautiful, the colonnes are a lovely space to have a cold drink or bite to eat, and the tours of the palace guided by an app on your phone is so very well performed that you truly get a feel for the history of the place. During vacations, there are activities for children e.g. today was filled with princesses of all ages, kids may borrow a wooden crazy horse and perform fence jumping etc. in the big and lovely space in the middle of the square. The guided tours take approx 30 min each but you may spend as much time as you like walking in the gardens or sitting down with a coffee or cold drink. If you come from the south, the drive itself to Paleis Het Loo will take you through one of the most beautiful wooded areas of the Netherlands, Hoge Veluwe.

The palace and grounds of this recently restored location are poorly set up. Huge queues and difficult access to and from the woods behind the garden meant that I never actually got into the palace rooms.
Expensive.
Museum part is, understandably, pro-Royalty and with little attention to the darker parts of the Dutch royal past.
All in all, not worth visiting.

On a rainy day in Apeldoorn, we, a group of 11 Spanish deaf people, visited Paleis Het Loo. We were delighted to find that a deaf guide was available to show us around. This made our visit extra special as we all had the opportunity to fully communicate and understand what was being explained.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we arrived late at the palace. As a result, our deaf guide had to leave early to fulfill his other commitments. Nevertheless, in the short time we had, we managed to develop a deep admiration for the beautiful history and culture that Paleis Het Loo has to offer.
Despite the limited time we had, we managed to make the most of our visit and explored the palace for 1.5 hours, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The impressive exhibition of the Dutch monarchs, with their beautiful pearls, made a lasting impression on us.
We would have liked to stay longer and explore more, but we understood that our time was limited. The rainy day did not spoil the fun, as we were fascinated by the beautiful historical treasures that the palace has to offer.
All in all, our visit to Paleis Het Loo was an unforgettable experience, partly thanks to the deaf guide who accompanied us. We are grateful that we had this opportunity and that our specific needs as deaf visitors were taken into account. Hopefully we can return again in the future and enjoy even more of all the beauty that Paleis Het Loo has to offer.

So, the castle is majestically situated in the countryside and we just wanted to visit the gardens. However, this is not possible and we had to pay around €50 for three people to be able to walk around the entire castle and gardens. That is simply far too expensive! Then we thought about at least eating dessert in the restaurant and sitting down there in peace. That was not possible because we had to pay the €50 entrance fee first. Where does something like that happen??? Paying an entrance fee to go to a restaurant?! That is completely unacceptable. I would rather keep my money and happily forgo a restaurant like that.

Parking is very expensive ( 8 Euro ).
Entrance is also very expensive (19.50 Euro), while the gardens and stables are free. So you actually pay to see the inside.
And that inside was: wardrobe and long hallway, one floor with rooms and paintings, and view from the roof. There were even 2 floors inaccessible to the public!
You have to pay for everything: For the tram if you want transport, for a paper info sheet. If you add it all up, it becomes an expensive joke.
There was a building in the scaffolding, and in the courtyard was a large white tent. Understandable that maintenance is occasionally necessary, but then give a discount on the entrance fee.
Jackets and backpacks were not allowed (?)
The route to follow was chaos, first it was marked with numbers, then with an east / west indication, and then with white arrows on the floor. Wees consequent.
Staff couldn't answer questions.
For us: Never again!

The reception of visitors is superb, all in marble, 20 gleaming toilets.
On the other hand, as far as the interior is concerned, what a disappointment! It smells musty and the castle is 19th century. Frankly, staying outside is enough, especially since the entrance fee of €20/person, not including parking, is not worth it.

The castle is finally open to visitors again. We booked the tickets online in advance and were here on a working day. The whole complex is perfectly structured and it was a pleasure to be a guest from the very first step.
The way to the castle is a really nice, short walk, past the stables and the first restaurant (excellent!).
You enter the castle via a side entrance and go down a staircase into an underground marble hall, where you are asked to leave your jackets at a cloakroom counter. Afterwards we had the pleasure of visiting two special exhibitions, on the topic of "thrones" and the "Oranje" house. This part also has a lovingly decorated souvenir shop with selected items.
The castle itself is thought out down to the smallest detail, from the audio guide to numbered runners that discreetly show you the way to umbrellas and blankets so you can access the breathtaking roof terrace in any weather. From there you can overlook the fantastic gardens.
The furniture and furnishings are lovingly arranged and feature many wonderful eye-catchers. A perfect stay through and through!

This is a very smart Palace. Everything looks brand new!
We did enjoy our visit, but felt there wasn't really much for children to take part in around the palace. However, outside there were a few Autumnal themed events and the herb bags you could fill yourself was lovely.
The gory Animal Heads in the first few rooms, near the entrance, were quite intimidating for our young children.
You have to download the Palace App before you set off on the tour. We gave up in the end because the "actors" describing each room were so cheesy!
The gardens are very impressive though and the views from the roof of the Palace are well worth the trip. The Gift Shop was very well stocked as well.

We went to this palace for the first time with our family. The gardens are beautiful and the coach house is impressively large, very nice to see the old carriages and cars that belonged to the royal family, nice also the information about each car or carriage, sometimes with videos.
We were disappointed with the palace itself, it was far too busy, due to the narrow corridors and rooms. The directions were unclear, so we missed half of it and, for example, were not on the roof. There was also no information about the rooms or paintings, so apparently we had to purchase a headset at the entrance. It's a shame because you miss the necessary information. The children's palace seemed fun but was already fully booked for the day, so our children were not allowed in.
All in all, I don't think the full potential is being used, and the palace itself in particular was disappointing in terms of crowds and information provision.
The gardens are beautiful and freely accessible.

Looking to take a gardening group there in September 2020. Will the gardens be open to view? Dank u!

Hi, the palace itself is closed until 2021 due to renovation, but you should be able to visit the park. My boyfriend and I visited the garden this summer and got a wonderful view of it from the roof of one of the buildings. Highly recommendable :)
You can read more at the website of Paleis Het Loo - I'm not allowed to post a link to the website here...
Have a nice trip!
With kind regards
