As a town that suffered so much from Allied bombing during the Second World War, it is pleasing to see some historical monuments preserved. These ruins are located in beautiful gardens, close to the centre of the city.

Free park on the bluffs above the river Waal, with an excellent view of the main bridge (site of a WWII battle) and with the ruins of a fort built during the time of Charlemagne on top of ruins from a Roman fort. One of the chapels has been restored and is open to the public (free, but donation encouraged).... More

At the edge of Nijmegen Centre is the Valkhof, with a medieval chapel and the ruins of a former castle. The views on the river Waal and the Waal bridge are magnificent.

Easy place to get to from the city center. It's also free!! There are some old roman ruins to see. Also it is a great place to see the river Waal and the bridge over it. The bridge has a significance during WWII. It should only take 30 to see all the sights here or you can spend an hour... More

This park, on a bluff overlooking the river contains ruins of medieval castles and chapel going to back to Charlemagne. From the waterfront you access the park via a set of stairs.

This park is in the city center, but gives you a very relaxed feeling. The old and ruined medieval building gives it also a special charm. One of the nicest thing in this place is the very beautiful view you'll have on the Maas river.

It has old Roman ruins and a great view of the Waal River and the Nijmegen Railway Bridge. Its not far away from the main street and can easily be reached on foot. The park looks to be well attended to and the ruins, although small, are very interesting due to their Roman history, there was an army camp and... More

The Park is located next to the museum, on a part where once stood a castle... in the park you can now find two ruins... of which one was not accessible... (the chapel). The only really interesting thing here is that you have a great view on the river.... apart from that there isn't much else to see....

This little park is worth a visit for the lovely view of the Waal river-front. There is an interesting ruin, a World War 2 German bunker which one can enter should one wish to, and a beautifully restored old chapel which is used for exhibitions etc. When we visited, there was an exhibition on Our Lady. We sat in this... More
