Like a museum garden, near the Rijksmuseum, City Museum, van Gogh museum, the city music hall, everything in walking distance, including supermarket, underground parking and upscale shops. Wonderful venue to hang around after strenuous museum visits, watch passersby, lie on the grass, picnic (escape expensive museum food prices). Periodically mass events are held here, like football championship parties.

They have made it easy by locating the major museums in the same area - just steps from each other. Prepare to spend at least half a day or more to view them all.

We didn't actually go to any museums but enjoyed the park and all activities going on. Located on tram line no 5. Worth a visit, will definitely go back and experience one of the museums

The majority of the museums are at the museum quarter so it is a very convenient meeting point in between visiting each museum. The museum quarter actually is a park with very little maintenance, sitting between the museums so I cannot say it is beautiful, but it is quieter than the city centre and it has lots of open space.... Compact cluster of fabulous art museums: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and others. Away from the city center, so quieter and less busy. Easily accessible by tram and canal boat.

Wonderful quiet atmosphere compared to Dam Square and the Red Light District. The Museum area is within walking distance of Central station (45 minute stroll) or you can get a tram in 15 minutes.

In between my museum visits, I relaxed and had a snack or either lunch here . It was a holiday so there was a big grand stand with musicians lplaying tunes or singing. There were many locals and tourists walking back and forth and milling around. Groups of school kids were marching in and out as well. It was a... More

This area is famous for the I Amsterdam sculpture and it is an easy walk from here to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rjiks museum. All of the museums get busy in holiday season and it is probably worthwhile to book in advance. Stroll along the Museumplein to have a break between museums. Nice coffee kiosk is available for... Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
