As a tourist you will not be able to borrow books, but the library is a great place for architectural enthusiasts, and a great place to unwind for booklovers. It is close to the Central station, so if you have some spare time before your train leaves, walk up to this great building.

Well, the architecture, for one thing. This is an amazing modern building! ALSO, the food in the cafeteria on the top floor is simple, but excellent and CHEAP!!! Its the most fun you'll have in a library..lol! I always hit the library when I'm in Amsterdam!

Great views and food on the 7th floor and a great place to sneak away and relax. Recommended by the hotel staff for the views. Not bad.

Jan 2015 My last of 5 countries on my 1st EU trip. The design is on point! Super sleek, very user friendly....I feeling love with the music stations! Found some 70s tracklist to jam to! There's a beautiful piano on the main floor too

Go to Level 7 it has seats with views across the whole city and food at great prices. You can chose fresh ingredients for stir fries, pizzas etc which they will cook infront of you . They have a wonderful salad bar, lots of delicious cakes and fresh fruit drinks.Handy for the station.

If you're in the vicinity of the central train station, free access to the 7th floor observation deck is worth the short walk. Plus you can enjoy a relaxing drink or snack up there.

As a visitor to Amsterdam, my experience with the Central Library was the great food and drink on the 7th floor. Plus, this is one of the better views of the City. The food was well prepared and moderately priced. It's buffet style and easy to navigate. Grab some wine or beer and head over to the outdoor seating area... More

My guide highly recommended to go there for the skyline and the restaurant at the roof top. Actually the location and the library itself are nice but at the roof top, if you expect to take nice picture of the great location, be aware that there is a safety plexiglass barrier preventing you to do so!

Openbaare Bibliotheek is just near Amsterdam Centraal Station. It's a great modern building, with a panoramic cafè and a restaurant with a view. Outside you can see people chill out sitting on the stairs, under the sun. Inside,a well-organized structure divided per themes,on different floors. WI FI is not free. Nice collection of magazines. Kids have their own area with a mini... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
