If you are interested in knowing more about Amsterdam during WWII, you will not be disappointed with this tour! Our, guide, Ben, was informative and entertaining. We covered a lot of territory but the pace of the walk was good. Ben answered all of our questions. We had arranged to visit the Anne Frank House immediately after this tour and... More

Peter Schaapman was a great guide of Amsterdam, its rich history and environment. There were four of us and he met us at the Anne Frank House to start our tour. Though he had an agenda planned for us, I felt he adjusted it based on the questions we had and made it extra special, seemingly like it was tailor... More

4 of us visited Amsterdam over the Easter break and I had inquired about this tour. Ben promptly answered and even arranged with another couple to go 1/2 hour earlier than they had planned since we had tickets to the Anne Frank house for the afternoon and couldn't be late for that. Ben met us near the Anne Frank house... More

Emilie's walking tour in Amsterdam is perhaps one of the best walking tours I've ever taken. She is so knowledgeable about the Dutch-Jewish history of WWII. Her personal connection was fascinating. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in WWII history.

Wear your walking shoes!! This tour covers so much history through Central Amsterdam! We reserved several weeks before the tour and received a large amount of background information for the tour (and restaurant recommendations for after the tour). During the tour, Ben gave us personal information about some of the Jewish families who were taken during the German occupation. There... More

This was a tour for maximum of 8 people. The walking pace was comfortable and Peter was so knowledgeable about the history of Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation during World War II. We found that this tour more than made up for the fact that we were unable to visit the Anne Frank House (tickets sold out until July). Do... More

Emilie is a fantastic guide who certainly has a powerful story to tell about Amsterdam during WWII and particularly the fate of the Dutch-Jewish community. I had known about the fate of the Jews in The Netherlands primarily through Anne Frank's story, and this tour compliments her story by talking about the Jewish community as a whole under Nazi rule... We took the WW2 walking tour with Emilie. She did an excellent job telling of the horrors the Jewish people and others experienced during those dark years. And tales of incredible courage. Stories that need to be told! Emilie was very personable and open to questions. The group was small (6 plus Emilie) which really contributed to an excellent experience.... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
