Bike rental

The five of us got our bikes from here. The gentleman was friendly. The rental was simple yet somewhat expensive but it was worth it as exploring Amsterdam on a bike is worthwhile.

As a visitor I want to be treated straight and am sick of extra unexpected mark ups. This happened twice on my recent visit with MacBikes.Firstly busy Cental Station shop has a good stock but not one of the cheaper no-gear bicycle, presumably in the expectation that we will bite the bullet for the 50% more expensive one with gears.... Hello George, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at one of our shops. It's true that we are limited to handbrake bikes at our location Central Station North. The reason for this is that the handbrakes are our most requested bikes. Our shop there is unfortunately too small to stock the cheaper pedal brakes, as we already have... More

Such a great way to see Amsterdam. Me and my partner hired a Tandem bike...1 hour for €10. The price was perfect. You have to leave a €50 deposit and a piece of photo identification. The sales man was very helpful showing us to use the bike and showed us how to use the bike locks etc. Definitely give it... More

A friend and I travelled to Amsterdam, we had one day to explore the city sights. After doing some research we found Mac bike did a city tour in the afternoon. Great we thought we can have an easy morning & then see all the major sights in the city at 2pm as advertised before we leave. We arrived before... More

Cooperation with Sandemans walking tours. New, red bicycles, had a two hours tour(seven people plus our guide Kendra), around the whole city. It was a very cold day, I do not recommend it for such a day, we got freezed to the bone. Cost 20 € per person, meeting point Dam square.

Hired bikes for two days, for a reasonable price, especially considering they are very nice bikes to ride. This is definitely the way to see Amsterdam, taking in the atmosphere and seeing much more of the city than on foot or tram. The other side of the river has some lovely rides too

We hired bikes from the leidseplein branch of Mac Bikes for three hours, and then rode around Vindelpark. It cost us €7.50 each, which we thought was very reasonable and the bikes were in good condition and comfortable on our butts! Service was very good for pick up and drop off. Highly recommend.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
