My favourite bar in the world

Cut brown cafe on a corner. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Beer was fine. But not friendly. It appears that foreign visitors are tolerated but it necessarily welcome still it deserves 3 stars for letting me relax and rest my feet. And of course for the beer.

One of two bars I always head for when in Amsterdam, I am never disappointed. It's a small, brown cafe with stained glass windows, in the heart of the beautiful Jordaan where many locals hang out and few tourists. I've sat for many hours drinking beers and jenevers with the locals, chatting with the staff who are friendly, warm and... More

This is another great place to grab a Pint! Sitting outside is great. Small quiet place. Meet some locals and have a laugh as you are enjoying a Pint. This is the oldest brown bar in Amsterdam. Close to Anne Frank House. It is known for Amsterdam's smallest bathroom. To flush, you have to do it from outside the bathroom!... More

We stayed at an AirB&B around the corner and stumbled upon Cafe Chris looking for a late afternoon drink. We were so impressed we came back every night we were in Amsterdam. The locals in the establishment were friendly and amusing and the proprietors helpful and welcoming (we were spotted a round the last night we came in). This is... More

Was walking around jordaan area and manage to find this unique local pub introduced by trip advisor. Great place with friendly and attentive bartender who introduced us to a Dutch small bite. Ambient was good with locals and good beer!

This is a neighborhood bar that's been around since 1625. We went here for the sole purpose of having a genever... Dutch style. It's cozy and was filled with locals and we sat at the end of the bar. The bar keep was pleasant and became even mo' pleasant when we ordered oude genever. He made the traditional pout... and... More

The place looks amazing inside with old amazing Dutch charm. They have about 5 beers on tap which are similar to what you see everywhere. The bartender clearly doesn't like tourists and was cold to us and yelled at us for mispronouncing the name of the beer. She wouldn't give us our drink until we pronounced the beer correctly. Then... Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
