With a growing interest in Impressionism and examination of the painters' efforts and struggles, for me, this visit added to my understanding of the painter's point of view, and purpose. Deepens the mystery of life in the fields, and the work it entails. Sadness for the tragedies that accompanied Van Gogh's path, following his passion.

This museum is awesome. The collection of Van Gogh paintings is wonderful and a feast for the eyes. The chronology of Van Gogh's life and so many great paintings are truly amazing. Don't expect to see Starry Night here as it is at the Museum of Modern Art in New York but the works of Vincent Van Gogh and his... More

What a delight! A festival of colors. Loved it. Not too long of a visit to see all.originally was going to look at the top ten paintings as recommended by internet sites. From the beginning it was already clear that I had to see it all.

An absolute must when you visit Amsterdam, but book your tickets in advance as even though we got there early we had to queue. The only thing I found was that they did let a lot of people in and so you spend quite a bit of time waiting to view the paintings. There is a great cafe there too,... More

I have been to the museum about 30 years ago. A lot of things have changed since. Queuing to the museum did not take long, but was confusing. The exhibition did not have some of the paintings I had seen before, and I was somewhat disappointed not to see them. Sunflowers is always spectacular.

I spent more then 4 hours in this museum because is full of fantastic paintings and get you involved in Van Gogh's life, but I found terrible the arrangement of the lights, that often prevent you from fully appreciating the art works.

Highly recommend strolling museum! A must for art lovers. Well laid out and a beautiful building. No bags or umbrellas or selfie sticks are allowed and must be checked at the cloakroom ( free of charge ). Photography is allowed at certain parts of the museum although I found it unclear where was ok to photograph but very easy to... More

The Van Gogh Museum is well laid out with each level focusing on one aspect of his life. The entry level has a large collection of his self portraits and a more personal glimpse into the artist's life. The upper floors focus on artists who inspired Van Gogh and whose works he studied; his impressionist paintings; and artists who were... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
