Well maintained welcomed and really great place to be with art lovers. Every single frame is well preserved and presented. My 9 year old never complained about the walking as there was enough provision to keep you relaxed and rested to enjoy the art. Knowning Van Gogh's amazing transformation and then downfall breaks your heart.

Amsterdam has a lot of great attractions, and this is definitely one of them. Whether you are an art enthusiast or someone who has only heard of Van Gogh through pop culture, the Van Gogh museum is a worthwhile experience for anyone who finds themselves in Amsterdam with some time to spare.

The non-permanent exhibit was "Daubigny, Monet, Van Gogh - Impressions of Landscape". Lovely examples of how Daubigny was the shift that drove the impressionist movement. This museum is well curated, and always has excellent visiting exhibits when I attend. And the permanent Van Gogh collection is worth a visit every time I go. I was able to get in without... More

As a true Van Gogh fan this was a must see for me. I spent 5 hours perusing his life, and his paintings. My friend and I had a wonderful time learning more about him, his life and his work. It was a great time.

Van Gogh. The painter who was obsessed with pheasants life, Who made many self portraits, who was unusual in so many ways and still created hundreds of masterpieces. The place is such a treat to visit. It's included in Amsterdam city card if you plan to buy one. Highly recommended for art lovers!

Insight into this troubled artist-didn't realise many of the things we learnt about him. Art by many other artists available for viewing and the audio equipment easy to use - in my opinion a nesessity and good value for money.

A really must go if you are an art lover. I went two times in five years. I haven't words to describe the pictures but I always have the paintings inside my head.

If you are not an Art lover and a tourist, and had to choose a Museum in Amsterdam, I would without a doubt say the van Gogh Museum. Impossible not to visit this World famous Museum. It is huge more than you could expect. 3 levels with the life and work of this notorious artist. You can visit at night time which is more relaxing with a glass of wine which you are allowed on the first floor. Easily 2 hours inside, great ambience and fantastically designed.

I am not painting lover and this place is just too famous and if you come to Amsterdam the first time you probably should go visit there too even thought you are not painting lover. I arrived there in the morning around 11:00am and I brought already tickets from the hotel as it is cheaper and can avoid queue up.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
