This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

Women looked like pieces of meat in a butcher shop, just pick the one you want. Also know from working with some of the anti sex slave groups, not all of those women choose to be there.

Well, what can you say. Hard to fly 1000’s of miles and not take a peak. Very regulated and clean, good party atmosphere, and a must see. Enjoyable walking up and down the small alleys and seeing all the entertainment right in front of you....More

You have to see this district when you come to Amsterdam if you are from North America. It is so different from our life today. There are a lot of people and interesting shops and some of the laws of the land are quite unique...More

We walked through the Red Light District as did probably the majority of the tourists that day. It was a continuous line of people filing past the ladies in their uncovered window booths. They were in various types of lingerie and most in provocative poses,...More

Interesting to see something like this. Ladies were dressed in underwear so no fear of younger eyes staring at naked women.

We visited RLD at night. Full of people and lot of girls behind the “glass” smiling and dancing (and smoking and watching onto mobile phone). But if you are around, go and take a look :-)

Come on, do you really need this to satisfy your curiosity? Are you really that naive? Move on to something more rewarding.

Whether your male or female this district is well worth a visit. The atmosphere at night is amazing. Just one word of warning, do not take photos of the ladies in the window.

Cafes, girls and lots of little side streets with lots of interesting shops. Probably more lively at night and probably more interesting to men. Wouldn't recommend taking children around that area

Had to have a peek at the red light district out of curiosity - it was what I expected. Plenty of "shows" for those wanting to see a bit more. Shows and clubs quite expensive - but I guess if you are into that sort...More

To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to

historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention

There's a lot to do in Amsterdam and a lot of beautiful things to see so avoid red light there's really no point and have a walk between the canals all around the town.

Fridays and Saturdays the district is packed, it gets a tiny bit quieter on Sundays, even in high season, so it would definitely make sense. Besides, following the pack, touring the neighborhood caravan-style up and down the... More
