You have to view the city from the angle of a canal boat at least once. Absolutely fabulous experience and would do it again - perhaps a themed one next time

A great way to see Amsterdam. The guide had a lot of stories and interesting facts about the city and life in Amsterdam. The Captain would slow down at 'photo ops'.

We took the Green line cruise and it was an informative way to get to know something about the city and to try to savour something of the ethos and mores of this city - the commentary does begin to grate on ones nerves because it is so excruciating clean and wholesome- the guide of board didn't say anything at... We went with The Lovers cruise company. It had a recorded commentary which was very interesting and available in many different languages. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We took the first cruise of the day at 9.00 a.m. We were well informed on the commentary, which was via headsets with a choice of languages. The guide also added comments of his own, which were quite humorous. The tour took the full hour and we saw the old Centrum quite comprehensively. We paid €16 and felt we had... More

Lovely hot day made the cruise a sun trap. Very informative audio guide in 16 languages I believe . Although we didn't pass the Ann frank house which was a little disappointing but apart from that there was some amazing sights to take in .

We take a night cruise with blue boat. Really nice experience. Don't miss it. We were sitting, eating peanuts, drinking wine and listening about Amsterdam history :)

This tour was included on our ricer cruise itinerary and i wasn't really expecting much. But I was pleased with the extent of the area that was covered and the commentary provided. Following the route on my map helped me get a handle on the geography of the city and made my subsequent independent walking easier to plan.

We used the Amsterdam sightseeing (red buses) for a 48 hour hop on/hop off with boat, although you actually get 2 1/2 days! you may have to wait about 15 mins for a bus but there are many. A little longer for a boat (25 mins.) Good commentary on board both. We used it to get around the city for... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
