I liked the fact that I got to see 3 cities in one day, however I wish I had more time in Delft (this of course is a personal preference and will maybe vary from person to person). Rotterdam was my least favorite stop. It is not necessarily because of the city itself but what we did while there. The... More

We found ourselves in the center of Amsterdam and decided to take a free tour. Our tour guide was Matteo an Italian with a great grasp of English. We spent 21/2 hours with him at a very fast pace. His tour encompassed the highlights of the center of Amsterdam and much of its history. We hit all the expected places... More

We booked for a private whole day Zaanse Schans and city tour just recently. We actually werent sure what time we were supposed to be picked up but when we went down to the lobby, our driver/guide Ronald was already there. He was very kind enough to allow us to have our breakfast even if it was time to go.... More

We signed up for this trip from the U.S. through Viator. The 8 1/2 hour day trip began from the Damrak 26 site and took us out into the countryside to Zaanse Schans, our first stop. There we toured a windmill where lindseed oil is made. Josey, our guide, and Bart, the bus driver, were wonderful hosts. Josey was friendly... More

We booked a private van and guide dor our family of five to visit the village of Zaanse Schans. Our guide, Otto, picked us up punctually at the appointed time. The van was comfortable and our tour of the windmill village was relaxed and very scenic. We did the touristy things like visit the clog factory and cheese factory, but... More

Best part of the tour was getting outside the city and seeing some of the countryside of the Netherlands. The Windmill village was my favorite stop but we didn't have enough time to really explore (just had one visit to a windmill and then 15-20 minutes of free time). The shoe making shop and cheese making factory were very TOURISTY.... More

On trying to decide which is the best way to see the most of Amsterdam in the least amount of time, we decided on the Pedicab. The Electric Tuk Tuks seemed restrictive as they are covered and would restrict the photo ops. The buggy ride would also be restricted, more expensive and noisy. We decided to hire an economical open... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
