As we have a lot of beguinages in Belgium, it was kind of a surprise to me finding one in the centre of Amsterdam. One moment you're at a busy place and the next one you are elsewhere with an almost unreal silence. Take your...More

Wonderful restoration of a 17th Century womens "cloister" steps away from the Flower Market. The area contains Amsterdam's oldest surviving wooden house.

In the heart of Amsterdam. Take a look for this small church. Amzaing squire that in old time the fishermen 's wife lived together and wait for their husbands in the cod winter.

This little gem was worth a visit but be warned you can easily miss the unobtrusive arched entrance (we followed a guided group). Once inside it is very tranquil and enables a glimpse of the traditional wooden houses that were here. I feel a little...More

Was directed here by my girlfriend who wanted to have a look as she'd heard about it from others. An absolutely lovely small square of peacefulness not very far from the hussle and bustle of the main streets. A great place for a period of...More

Nice place, quiet , easy access, free and one of oldest hofjes (Historical houses) in the city. Architecture of the houses is very cute . Two nice churches, the Catholic Houten Huys and the English reformed . Great place.

I had seen this area reviewed prior to our trip, but it still surprised me to stumble accidentally on this little enclave of Dutch wooden houses. No photos are allowed inside the enclave as it is currently lived on. This was originally inhabited by women...More

We walked through this lovely, quiet area and enjoyed it's peacefulness and charm. The buildings are so beautifully Dutch and it's a well-kept area. We went into the old Hidden Church where Catholics once worshipped in secret in the 1600s when Catholicism was banned.

A quiet and peaceful area behind closed doors, unless it's full of tourists of course! Lovely area if you are passing by.

A small, but beautiful, well-maintained Begijnhof, still only inhabited by women. With even one of the last authentic wooden houses from the 16th century. A nice place to take a break from the busy city life!

Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of
tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists
and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the
best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe.
Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops
of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones
Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods
such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring

It's too soon to say exact times for Easter but apparently the High Mass is at 12.15 and is held partly in English. Walking time is approximately 10 minutes from your hotel.
