Our guide Tijs (I hope I'm spelling that right) really knew his stuff, and the tour was very interesting and informative. Highly recommended.

Monique was very nice, kind and knowledgeable. We even had time for a quick snack! I just advise all the participants to bring an umbrella and comfortable shoes, it's quite a walk!

It was the first experience with the free walking tours for me and my 3 girlfriends, so we weren't quite sure what to expect... but after 2,5 hours we were extremely happy that we decided to join it. We could find out some interesting facts about the city, its history and people living there. Usually two of my friends tend... More

Rather a wet afternoon in Amsterdam. Monique our guide made the walk informative and enjoyable. We would recommend any new visitors to Amesterdam to experience this tour.

Had a lovely few hours with Sem, very informative and interesting. Sem himself was great, really fun and charismatic. Tour included some good places, interesting to hear things we wouldn't have learnt otherwise. Good mix of trivia, history, geography etc. Really enjoyable afternoon! Only downside I would say is that the group size was quite large. But other than that,... More

It was snowing earlier the Saturday I did the walking tour, so understandably it was quite cold during the 2.5 hours we walked around the city. Nevertheless it was still worthwhile. It makes traveling much more meaningful to hear some of the history and culture behind a city. The guide was very knowledgable about the city and there were ample... More

Discovering a city can be much fun, but exploring Amsterdam with the City Free Tour Amsterdam and our tour guide Monique was not only fun, it was also entertaining, informative, witty and extensive. In almost 3 hours we not only walked through the various neighborhoods of the vibrant city center, we were also walked through the eventful history of both... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
