A lovely little gallery that introduced us to some Dutch artists that we didn't know about. It's a nice change from the busy galleries of Amsterdam and is a bit more relaxed. Very efficient service for keeping bags in lockers which was super convenient.

Seems like a very nice museum, and appreciated the video, tho hard to hear English version on phones, while room volume/Dutch is so high. Loved the locale and separate rooms. Though on this Sunday, there were two loud tours wich made for a bit of...More

The Frans Hals Museum is housed in an old men's almshouse, of which he painted the Regents around 1664. We felt a real connection with the past. There is an excellent film giving an overview of Hal's life and work, and there are many tremendous...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this fabulous museum. There are some wonderful paintings by the master himself as well as others by other great Dutch artists. The building itself is beautiful and all the exhibits are well displayed. The free audio guide was excellent...More

I went to many museums on my trip, and this one was just ok. The building itself was interesting. My cotraveler and I had the Museumkaart, so we were incented to see as many galleries as possible to get the most value.

I was very disappointed in this museum. It's not that the collection isn't good; it is. But there's precious little work by Frans Hals on display. I had visited this museum many years ago and was very excited about going there again, but either their...More

The title of this museum is a bit misleading. It does display a good collection of Frans Hals' portraits, particular the group portraits of civic guards. But there's a lot more in the museum including works by Hals' teacher, Karel van Mander, and several temporary...More

Interested in seeing this museum about Haarlem's most famous painter. The free audio guide provides a good overview of the museum. The museum wraps around a beautiful central courtyard. Be sure to visit the garden and soak in the atmosphere of the area. There are...More

My only complaint about this otherwise very good museum is the misleading name. There are a few paintings by Frans Hals, but not enough to justify naming the museum after him. The works displayed and even the building itself, along with the garden, are certainly...More

Take the train from Amsterdam Central station to Haarlem main station. Walk into the centre and walk on to the second bridge, don't cross that bridge but turn left along the canal and take the second street on the left. It... More
