Museum Volkenkunde is a museum about people housed in a historic building just five minutes' walk from Leiden's central station. A huge totem pole greets visitors as they enter the museum through the garden. Museum Volkenkunde presents regularly changing exhibitions and its permanent display features objects from eight different cultural regions. Objects that all have a story to tell about humankind.

This is of course quite subjective, but I love learning about people and different cultures/tribes/customs so I love this museum. You can pick a section per day and just wander around looking at all of the neat expos from a certain region of the world. My visits were always highly enjoyable. Also the museum seems to be kid-friendly (although I... More

We visited the museum yesterday. Great variety to look at. Staff was also very friendly and the little bar served good coffee and offered a variety of snacks.

It is a really interesting museum, where you can learn a variety of facts for many cultures. It is really close to leiden centre. The only thing I did not like so much was the feather exhibition. It was so big, occupying an important part of the museum, and , in my opinion, was not so interesting.

The Museum has a very good collection and it is worth spending time going round. We were here for a good two hours. Good interactive labels in both Dutch and English. We thoroughly enjoyed their current exhibition on feathers - but sadly no catalogue.

It is always nice to visit this museum. A very nice collection and a theme about the use of feathers during the ages (and cultures). Very nice displayed and child friendly. Not the biggest museum in Leiden but as part of a bigger tour, a must see. Will be back for sure. Just bring a torch light because the whole... More

It is the most popular museum of Leiden. If you like humans and humanities, you will enjoy it. They have always some thematic exhibitions which are well done.

There is so much to see here it would be easy to be totally overwhelmed by it. Have a plan to see key things - or make return visits Dont try and do it all in one visit unless you have incredible staying power!

Our visit to the museum was very enjoyable and informative. The ethic displays are very well executed. We very much appreciated the Buddha room. There was a special feather exhibit which was outstanding. Several mannequins were dressed in feather dresses and coats. The display was fascinating. A huge bird cage included many types of birds. Overall, it was an exceptional... More
