The building itself is already worth visiting. Next to an overview of Leiden's history based on found old "treasures" like coins, materials, weapons and clothes, an impressive collection of paintings can be admired from famous painters born and/or lived in Leiden. You will be surprised how many well-known painters lived in Leiden.

This small museum is really well presented - about to have a major renovation. Lots to see and well laid out. Staff were helpful. Local authorities here seem to put a lot of effort/funding into their heritage - the UK could learn a lot from this place.

it was a former textile factory. textiles were the main industry of Leiden, but the industry is now almost non-existent. still, this museum plays a very important tribute to those days abut it also houses an important art collection, in which one of the stars of Leiden, named Lucas, is represented with a big tryptic. it also has another interesting... Worth the visit! When in Leiden make sure you visit all of its beautiful museums, which the Municipal Museum of Leiden is one of the more famous ones.

It was the chance to look at the art collection that drew us to the museum, and there is much to admire in that part of the collection, but it was the history rise, decline and extinction of cloth making in the city that proved to be most informative. Well worth a visit.

A mix of armaments, old tile, fabric, paintings, and a hidden church--tied together by the history of Leiden. The story of the Siege of Leiden (1573-4) is told on the upper floor. Although not everything is translated, the videos are pretty informative. I also found the wool fabric (Laken) interesting--you can touch some and imagine what all those grim looking... More

We're not the most ardent of museum-goers but enjoyed this on a damp Saturday afternoon. There is lots of interest, particularly the Leiden textile history. We particularly liked the project which has commissioned designers to create a series of new designs, one a year. The one for 2015 is gorgeous but you have to wait till 2018 to be able... More
